California voters were almost evenly split when asked whether Newsom has done a good or bad job as governor, a precipitous drop from September when two-thirds of those polled gave him high marks.
The poll also found that just 31% of those surveyed thought that Newsom and other state government leaders have done an excellent or good job handing the pandemic, while 23% said they have done a fair job and 43% called it a poor job.
Less than half of California voters — 46% — approved of Newsom’s job performance, a dramatic slide for a governor who was elected with a historic margin of victory in 2018 over Republican challenger John Cox and defeated a slate of Democratic challengers in that year’s primary.
Meanwhile, the state’s unemployment agency has been besieged by scandal and mismanagement, with millions of jobless Californians awaiting payments and at least $11.4 billion in unemployment benefits paid to fraudulent claims during the pandemic.
The Newsom administration’s troubles come as Californians are chafing at nearly a year of COVID-19 restrictions and closures to stem the spread of the deadly virus, devastating businesses large and small, putting many out of work and forcing schoolchildren into distance learning programs.

Only 1/3? Come on California.
Maybe they need to publish how many people were killed due to Newsom’s policy forcing nursing homes to accept known-infected patients. Maybe that would wake some people up.
He gets recalled and runs for Nancy’s seat. Maybe even DiFi’s. POTUS ambition destroyed but he won’t miss a meal.
This article shows what is wrong with polling. The ony people we know who support the recall of Gavin Newsome are those who have signed the recall petition. If one third of all voters supported the recall effort, the recall petition would have reached the required number of signatures months ago.
“Only a third - shows how badly CA voters have been brainwashed.”
Doesn’t matter, even if they recalled Newsom, they’d just vote for some other leftist turd.
I think the recall will happen.
Good riddance to this corrupt lecher.
Silver lining here is that if Newsom is removed his political asperations of “movin’ on up” to the White House are probably done. As for the voters getting wise, Californian’s have been swimming in a delusional ideology for decades. Don’t count on them doing any better than before.
Time for Newsom to accept the Vice Presidency under President Harris. Oops, got a few weeks ahead of myself. She never blurted out “I will have to select a woman or a black as my new VP”. But Hillary may seethe , until she gets on the Supreme Court.
Women voters who didn’t like Trump’s hair will say about Newsom “He’s kinda cute. Got my vote.”
I’m very involved with the effort of recalling my local school board, and recalling Newsom—there are LOTS of Dems who admit they voted for him but now want to recall him. Families who want school and sports for their kids and teens are very angry. They know it’s pretty much only CA children who are not in school or sports by now. Those—plus the small business owners, plus the few remaining CA conservatives—are the 1/3.
In 1960 I read the Liberal Hour by John Kenneth Galbraith.
The “hour” meant after all the indecision and assessment of the ongoing issues, the majority in America will vote Dem in the hour they head for the polling place.
I believe Newsom (and Whitmer) types will again win if they choose to run again. “I always vote Dem, every time, they’re for the little guy.”
Polling answers are useless. If you are an eligible voter in California, sign the danged petition. The amount of signatures they have to date is pitiful in a state that large.
My friends there are 5.4 million republicans in Calif. One million of them are hard core. One million signatures should have been gathered in the first week or 2. Every county GOP office should have contacted them directly. They know where they live. They could have asked how strong their affiliation was. They can find out who did not vote so that people like me could offer them a ride to the polls or even HARVEST their vote. It’s legal.
Good work!
