Gun dealers say they are selling more firearms than ever in the Chicago area since the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol — and they predict sales will shatter the records set during last year’s civil unrest and in the early days of the coronavirus panic.
And their top salesman is fear.
Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, traces the surge in sales to the Black Lives Matter protests last summer and other civil unrest.
“People are worried about it,” Pearson said. “And so, they are beginning to wonder if the police can protect them. And many of us finally realized that the police have no obligation to protect any individual person. So, they’re looking to protect themselves.”
“The liberal Democrats just accepted rioting on the streets and didn’t try to stop it. That’s why people are scared."
“We would normally have one to two months’ worth of [ammunition] supply on hand. Right now, we’re counting in the days,” he said.
Greg Tannehill traced the gun sales to “straight up fear.”
He blames the news media for not covering the “stolen election,” accusing the Chicago Sun-Times specifically of being a “liberal” outlet.
“This stolen election and the increase of gun sales in the last two weeks alone go hand in hand. They’re spawned by the theft of an election,” he said.
“We’re back not trusting our government. The media really painted the best president in history as a really bad guy. You shouldn’t have done that because a lot of people have had enough of that crap. And you’re gonna see a big backlash coming soon if you haven’t already.”

I look at it as being similar to the run on toilet paper. If you’ve got the money, load up your cart with firearms and ammo. Get ‘em while they last.
What “insurrection at the U.S. Capitol”
Are they talking about the Stop the Steal protest?
It was mostly peaceful.
“(gun owners need to register with the state and obtain identification).”
Geeze, Do voters have to do that too?
Like the entire government living in a walled armed military encampment?
“ This news is from “Blue” state Illinois which has restrictive gun laws (gun owners need to register with the state and obtain identification).”
An FOID is required to purchase or possess firearms and ammunition, yes. But our gun laws are far less restrictive than at least a dozen other states. There is no State AWB, no restrictions on magazine size, and our CCL process is “shall issue”. It’s way too expensive in my view, but you pay your money, take the classes, and your permit gets issued.
Compared to CA, NY, MD, MA, DC, etc Illinois is a gun owners paradise.

So many posters made that point here all along. Now with threats to really defund police after making them inhibited about harshly holding a suspect's arm to stop him from pulling out a 45---and the cops ending up as defendants in civil court--people are afraid.
A great old cartoon of Frank and Ernest had the two commenting on a police car going by "They say this is the most dangerous part of town". Car had a sign "Officers Carry No More Than $20 In Cash."
... they are beginning to wonder if the police can protect them....
Police aren’t allowed to protect much of anything any more. Or if they do are ridiculed.
How many pistol ranges or gun stores are located in the Chicago city limits? Zero?
The implication for “since January 6” is that Trump supports going on an insurrection is driving gun sales. What about the record sales for all of 2020?
Losers.
It’s fun to reconcile these two things:
From the article: “...traces the surge in sales to the Black Lives Matter protests last summer and other civil unrest.”
What a crazy world.
Country lyrics nail it again: “God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.”

Huh. Where is Mayor Lightfoot? And how is that defunding thing working out? Sao Paulo here we come!
Don’t know. There’s a whole lot of Illinois that ain’t in Chicago. We belong to a private gun club in rural IL. On any given weekend there is company strength on the grounds hammering away with more AR and AK pattern rifles than you can shake your Johnson at.
We have a 1,000 Yard Club there. Have to hit a man sized target at 1,000 yards in front of 2 witnesses. The Artillery guys are a hoot. One member has the largest private collection of mortars and cannons in the Midwest.
Seeing him touch off a 4 pound rifle is pretty impressive.
There are half a dozen gun shops within an hours drive of The Loop. The reason there are none in Chicago is because of Chicago voters. So screw them.
Illinois is also home to some of the finest gun manufacturers in America. Rock Island, Springfield Armory, DSA, Les Baer, and Armalite just to name a few. We got our AR rifles from a small custom maker in Dundee. There are more than a few of them located here.
So while Illinois is in general a giant dumpster fire our gun laws are actually pretty good comparatively.

Interesting,
Thanks!
My pleasure.

Yet. Just wait. Mere civilians, whites and other "terrorists" have no expectation of freedom, if the Democrats are in control.

Illinois politics is a funny beast. If it weren’t for Illinois America wouldn’t have McDonald v City of Chicago. Might want to look that one up. Take a look at the red/blue map while you’re at it. Those idiots in Chicago may want to do all that stuff but downstate IL puts a stop to it.

They wonder if thr police can protect them??? Are they serious? Even if they could, they have no duty to do so.
