Downed power lines caused California’s deadliest wildfire two years ago, when the Camp Fire tore through Butte County and killed 85 people.
As the fire raged, a Georgia woman who recently won a seat in Congress shared a false conspiracy theory alleging something else — that the fire was caused by lasers from space, according to recently uncovered social media posts.
Now-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, wrote in a Facebook post that “there are all these people who have said they saw what looked like lasers or blue beams of light causing the fires, and pictures and videos.”
A screenshot of that post was shared by liberal media watchdog Media Matters for America, which first reported about the post and which has been extensively covering Greene’s social media history in recent days.
Greene falsely speculated that Pacific Gas & Electric and then-Gov. Jerry Brown were involved in causing the fire, according to the screenshot posted by Media Matters.
“It also must be just a coincidence that the fires are burning in the same projected areas that the $77 billion High Speed Rail Project is to be built, which also happens to be Gov. Brown’s pet project,” Greene wrote, according to the screenshot.
That’s wrong in two ways.

Stupid and crazy.
Our very own Maxine Waters.
Stupid people elect stupid people.
I don’t see where she thinks it was aliens.
Most of the forest fires raging through California are deliberately set. At least last season as I recall.
Laser pens can probably start them very effectively.
She is just getting smeared IMO.
“...Our very own Maxine Waters.”

Well, I’ll keep her!
How many Congresscritters believed Trump was a Russian asset?
Hell, how many still do?
That’s a hell of a lot crazier.
You didn’t even read the entire article.
“...She is just getting smeared IMO.”

Yep, big time.
The media is after her because she wants to conceal carry in Washington DC. She’s on Nancy’s enemies list.
I don’t know this congresswoman. I also know I don’t trust any media to say anything honest about a conservative/Republican
So basis that, this article doesn’t mean much to me.
But I will draw the following two conclusions:
- Someone in her district can run against her in two years. Problem solved.
- and if she is indeed crazy, then its just another reason to limit the power of Fed.gov politicians, and the scope of government and its bureaucrats.
Well her thoughts were mere speculation. But have they been proven false? No.
Yeah. I would rather have a “smart” republican like Liz Cheney. /s
There is a Democrat that thinks Guam can flip over and a former one I believe that thinks sharks evolved to follow slave ships. OH yeah, and they had one that was a KKK leader, in Robert Byrd.
As long as she gets her votes right, and doesn’t hurt anybody else, we should be, at least, tolerant of her.
But tolerant is as far as I can go.
It’s a level of crazy I’d not vote for.
Yes... funny how Media Matters , though, doesn’t mention Waters, or that Nancy Pelosi clsimed she spoke with the ghost of Susan B. Anthony.
Her beliefs are less harmful than those who think democratic socialism is a good thing and that racism is the root cause of every problem in the world.
Just saying.
And yet one is praised and the other is condemned...
So, you should read up on the Congresswoman. She needs to stay and be a thorn in the side of the dems.
If memory serves, light coming from the sun is coherent, as is laser light.
Just sayin’.
I have seen those videos. I have always questioned how a car engine can be turned to molten metal like a stream of mercury when the tree right next to the car had no burn marks on it and did not catch fire.
Something crappy happened in CA.
That’s the only kind of Republican some people want, Democrats in drag.
