Its not as much about education as it is about keeping job seekers off the market an additional 4 years.

People too dumb for college are already 50% of the collegiate population. Probably close to 100% of the collegiate athletic population.

“...parents will be mandated to make financial disclosures or their children will be denied a HS diploma.”

Good point.

The book 1984 needs to be re-titled to 2024. Or 1984 Plus 40.

We don’t need any more college graduates who can barely read and write. We need more welders, electricians, millwrights and fitters.

Can’t find any.

College doesn’t prepare people for all of the good paying jobs...only a few actually.

"It’s possible that some people are too dumb for college. How many understaffed coffee shops are there?"

Don't we already have enough AA engineers?

Four to ten more years of indoctrination is optimal...

Rather than too dumb perhaps you should amend it to read too smart.

One of my kids decided to eschew college and become a trucker. He’s a hard worker and loves what he does. He works for a lumberyard and delivers flatbed semi loads to jobsites. He’s responsible for professionally driving a 60,000 pound load safely, responsible for the $300,000 worth of new equipment he drives and most importantly, responsible for keeping hundreds of tradesmen employed and feeding their families.

His debt-$0.00

This isn't about the students. This is the government trying to keep failed education institutions in business despite them offering less and less of what students need.

More and more, universities are where students can go to learn idiocy in a semi-formal setting.

Between mandatory volunteer hours, political indoctrination and forced reporting of all of their parents income and assets, do the kids have time for any education anymore?

A scheme to get more students/parents into more debt and more worthless degrees, Instant Unemployment Degrees, aka
IUD’s.

Awful. From my perspective, what this would accomplish is to tell my teens what my “expected family contribution” is, which would be a LOT more than I’d be willing to pay (we’ve saved up for 4 years of public college x 4 kids but no more).

My college age kids are eligible for exactly $5,500 of student loans per year. Pointless. The cheapest public tuition and room and board in CA is $25,000/year. Wouldn’t make a dent.

Filling out the FAFSA is a waste of time for my kids.

Filling out the FAFSA is also a waste of time for the HALF of kids who don’t go to college.

Filling out the FAFSA is also a waste of time for high school CA seniors who live with their parents and attend community college full time (free tuition in CA).

Filling out the FAFSA can be dangerous for low income kids who DO qualify for yes some grants but also loans of $50K a year. They would take on that ruinous debt and attend a college pricier than they should.

Should not be a graduation requirement for so many reasons.

part of a broad effort to guide more high-school students toward college

If the number of students in college fell by 90%, the country would be better off.

To be fair, the financial disclosures on the FAFSA are already pretty well known by the federal government. The form links to IRS information. But I think it also asks how many other siblings are in college and a few other financial things the IRS wouldn’t know.

But yes, why should a minor’s graduation from a (public? or private too?) high school be linked to the completion of a federal form? What about homeschoolers? (I have one now).

Are you being deliberately offensive?

You could have communicated the same accurate information without being a total jerk.

Well, at least we know you aren’t a Christian with an attitude like that.

Send them all to college. There won’t be jobs for them anyway and their indoctrination can continue uninterrupted..

Forcing them into useless degrees that only make money for academia.

What a racket.

I wonder how much those politicians are getting in kickbacks for pushing this.
