China’s recent COVID-19 outbreaks in the northeast have come from travelers entering the country or contaminated frozen food imports, the National Health Commission (NHC) said on Saturday.
“Since Dec. 2020, epidemic clusters have occurred in Beijing, Sichuan, Liaoning, Hebei and Heilongjiang,” a statement posted on the NHC’s website said citing the briefing by Ma.
“They mainly have the following characteristics. Firstly, they are all imported from abroad, caused by travelers from overseas, or contaminated cold-chain imported items.”
Total case numbers remain well below what China saw at the height of the outbreak in early 2020, but concerns about a new wave are growing with the Lunar New Year a month away.

If the PRC says anything, I always assume there’s an approximately 98% chance it’s B.S., but anyone know what they’re talking about with respect to frozen food?! First I’ve heard of that being a vector of transmission.

There are overseas Chinese that live in New York or London that flew back to China hoping to avoid Covid in NYC. They took the new variant when. Then when the new variant appears in the PRC the fly back to Vancouver, NYC, London or LA to avoid the one in China and spear it to the people in the new city.

The tournament chartered several flights to ferry players to Australia, but in the last 24 hours two of those planes had passengers test positive upon arrival.
On a flight from LAX, two aboard tested positive including a coach.
On a flight from Abu Dhabi, one passenger tested positive — Bianca Andreescu’s coach, Sylvain Bruneau.
The Australian Open has confirmed the cases on both flights. And the consequences are not pretty.
A total of 47 players (23 from LAX, 24 from Abu Dhabi) must now fully quarantine without leaving their hotel rooms for 14 days...
Where it gets sticky is players signed up to play the event because the tournament told them that if they tested negative they would be allowed five hours per day to train. Now, for 47 players that has been taken away through virtually no fault of their own.
Some of them include Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber, Kei Nishikori, Heather Watson, Yulia Putinseva, Sloane Stephens, Bianca Andreescu, Vasek Pospisil and Pablo Cuevas.
Imagine you undertake this 20-hour or so journey, land in Australia, test negative, prepare to get two weeks of training in only to get told you will have to isolate instead and cannot leave the hotel.
