Below is an email I received on Jan 11 from Congresswoman Katherine Clark, of the 5th district in Massachusetts, where I live, from her official email address, ma05kcima@mail.house.gov .
Friends,
The President and his corrupt enablers summoned a seditious mob to our nation's capital, whipped them into a violent frenzy, and unleashed them upon the United States Capitol building as Members of Congress and the Vice President were certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election.
We all saw what happened next: insurrectionists desecrated the center of our government, determined to forcefully overturn the results of a free and fair election and end American democracy itself.
They failed.
Every instigator, perpetrator, and accomplice to this assault on our democracy that resulted in the deaths of 5 Americans, including the murder of a United States Capitol Police officer, must be held to account and brought to justice. Chief among them being the President of the United States.
Donald Trump is a traitor to our country. He must be removed from office.
The House is using every power at our disposal to protect the American people and our democracy. This week, we will pass a resolution to call on Vice President Pence to enact the 25th Amendment, and we will impeach the President. Inaction is not an option.
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: "It is always the right time to do what is right." In the wake of a violent coup attempt against our government and as an out-of-control pandemic continues to rage across every state, the future of our country and the lives of millions depend on it.
I promise to keep you updated as the situation continues to develop, and I will continue to do everything in my power to protect the American people and defend our democracy.
Sincerely,
Katherine Clark
Member of Congress (MA-05)
Who do I complain to? If the House impeaches Trump, I think a congressman can send an email explaining what the charge is, but I think emails declaring the President a "traitor" cross the line.
What “violent coup attempt”?
I think I live in her district. If she’s the rep for the People’s Republic of Cambridge, that’s her.
Not worth the effort complaining. Nothing will happen.
Isn’t she number 3 in the ‘rat pecking order, right behind Steny?
You’re assuming they care about legality anymore, and any dissent will likely land you on a list. You think I’m kidding?
Only Democrats......
Democrat. She can do whatever she wants to do.
My (D) “Representative” is claiming in her blast email to us that it was an “armed” protest.
I haven’t seen ANY coverage indicating anyone of the protestors were “armed” with anything more than a Trump or American flag.
Have any of you?
Well, since no law in any form seems to apply to people in Congress, I am going to answer yes.
JoMa
Most respectfully, what you wrote was idiotic.
There are no regulations that prevent Congressmen (from either party) from sending out political E-mails.
The “Franking Regulations” define when a member of Congress is allowed to free use of the mail. A Congressman can use this privilege to free use of the Post Office to mail items that are not overtly political, such as newsletters, government documents, seeds from the USDA, etc. The Post Office gets the postage from the government, not the Congressman.
This is E-mail, and does not involve postage or the Post office, so it doesn’t come under Franking Regulations.
Nor should it be regulated. Sending out a mailing by Post Office to every voter in a district would involve a huge amount of postage. Free postage for political items would thus give a Congressman a major unfair advantage. By contrast, the cost of sending out a ton of E-Mails is negligible, and not worth regulating.
Well, they are politicians, so we might expect them to talk about politics. But the politics of Democrats are criminal in nature. Criminals don’t care about the consequences of their actions. Psychopaths don’t care about the people they hurt.
The Democrat Party is the party of criminals.
