The ‘Woke’ Purge Has Begun
Nation & State ^ | 1-11-2021 | Brendan O’Neill

Cancel culture doesn’t exist, they say. And yet with the flick of a switch, billionaire capitalists voted for by precisely nobody have just silenced a man who is still the democratically elected president of the United States. With the push of a button in their vast temples to technology, the new capitalist oligarchs of Silicon Valley have prevented a man who won the second largest vote in the history of the American republic just two months ago — 74million votes — from engaging with his supporters (and critics) in the new public square of the internet age.

Not only does cancel culture exist — it is the means through which the powerful, unaccountable oligarchies of the internet era and their clueless cheerleaders in the liberal elites interfere in the democratic process and purge voices they disapprove of. That’s what Twitter’s permanent suspension of Donald Trump confirms.

The new capitalists’ cancellation of the democratically elected president of the United States is a very significant turning point in the politics and culture of the Western world. We underestimate the significance of this act of unilateral purging at our peril. It demonstrates that the greatest threat to freedom and democracy comes not from the oafs and hard-right clowns who stormed the Capitol this week, but from the technocratic elites who spy in the breaching of the Capitol an opportunity to consolidate their cultural power and their political dominance.

Twitter’s ban on Trump is extraordinary for many reasons. First, there’s the arrogance of it. Make no mistake: this is the bosses vs democracy; corporates vs the people; exceptionally wealthy and aloof elites determining which elected politicians may engage in online discussion, which is where most political and public debate takes place in the 21st century. Those who cannot see

This decade is going to be implementing everything they did during the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan to America.

And with a few exceptions like Devin Nunes, the GOP has absolutely nothing to say about it. Guys like Graham and Romney are too busy sputtering about how evil Trump is to even mention the grotesque curtailment on free speech that is taking place by companies which have monopolized digital communication and which are now restricting it's use.

The GOP is, by and large, utterly worthless.

There must be blood to eliminate the left wing radical zealots.

Reliance on lawyers is futile. We live in a tyranny of lawyers

No. The biggest danger is not having an opposition party to rampaging Demofascists. The bipartisan manner of the coup is what makes it so effective and transformative.

They have electronic power? That doesn’t amount to a row of beans in the physical world of beans butter and guns.

Its a virtual woke revenge. Check things out.We are NOT virtual.

Spare me the cowardly ranting.

I’ll worry when the left fields a few hundred thousand armed cannon fodder with nice targets painted on their shirts.

These are not capitalists but robber barons/pirates. Bill gates wants to reduce world population by 85% and Ted turner wants to get rid of 95% of the world population. These people are dangerous. Don’t forget that Bayer was the one that built Auschwitz.

Very informed people who know Trump better than anyone, who have never logged on to Facebook or Twitter find this ‘silenced’ hysteria weird.

People think Trump depends on Twitter. In his second term he won’t need to be campaigning. He’ll never need twitter. The twitter heads will be writhing in obscurity while facing racketeering charges. Pshaw.

This. Nothing will change until key people start expiring prematurely. The Democrats know this (ahem, Scalia) and Republicans are too cowardly.

We have come a long way from I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your Right to say it.

Anyone here think they would live long enough to see this happen? I certainly didn’t.

I believe Rush Limbaugh might actually admit that this is the time to panic.

We aren’t just battling an out of control Government, we are battling half the Population that is cheering it on.

God help us.
