I think Sweden also has an official list of boys and girls names that you must choose from when naming a baby, but this is not to enforce gender distinctions but to avoid weird names like Moonbeam or Sparrow.

Some people really should NOT be allowed to name children, either their own or anyone else’s. If your surname is Butz don’t name your son Seymour. If your surname is Blow don’t have children or just change your surname to Jones.
