Legalizing drugs would render the cartels bankrupt and leave that industry to Americans.Yes, just as (re)legalizing the drug alcohol did. One hpes that learning from experience is still a conservative thing to do.

Clearly the government has a constitutional right to regulate and criminalize drugs just as it has the right to regulate food and ethical drugs. What text of the Constitution supports any of those government "rights" (which government has none of - only authority)?

surging tonnage of cocaine and black market marijuana, are pouring across our borders at the hands of ruthless Mexican drug cartels, directly fueling ever-increasing overdose deathsLaughable nonsense - there is no documented case of marijuana ever causing an overdose death. Let go of Reefer Madness hysteria and leave marijuana up to the states, and we might just find ourselves with a war on drugs we can actually win.

government—can make the greatest positive impact by reducing drug availability. That is, interdicting drug shipments and arresting, prosecuting, and imprisoning drug dealers. The author demands "evidence-based practices" in addiction treatment—so where is the evidence for reduced drug availability after decades of interdicting drug shipments and arresting, prosecuting, and imprisoning drug dealers? Drug prices have not risen, and have in many cases dropped.
