Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has joined the effort with about a dozen Republican senators that will raise objections on Jan. 6 to Joe Biden’s election victory, according to a joint statement from the lawmakers.
Cruz and 10 other Republican senators or senators-elect said in a statement they would raise objections in Congress on Jan. 6.
It is when Congress is required by the U.S. Constitution to meet and accept the results of the Electoral College, a gathering that is typically a formality.
The statement calls for a delay of certification, and a 10-day investigation into accusations of wrongdoing.
“Congress should immediately appoint an Electoral Commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority, to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in the disputed states. Once completed, individual states would evaluate the Commission’s findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed.
“Accordingly, we intend to vote on January 6 to reject the electors from disputed states as not ‘regularly given’ and ‘lawfully certified’ (the statutory requisite), unless and until that emergency 10-day audit is completed.”
According to a joint statement released Saturday, joining Cruz are: Sens. Ron Johnson, R-Wis.; James Lankford, R-Okla.; Steve Daines, R-Mont.; John Kennedy, R-La.; Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.; and Mike Braun, R-Ind.; as well as Sens.-elect Cynthia Lummis; R-Wyo.; Roger Marshall, R-Kan.; Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn.; and Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.
“We are not naïve. We fully expect most if not all Democrats, and perhaps more than a few Republicans, to vote otherwise. But support of election integrity should not be a partisan issue. A fair and credible audit-conducted expeditiously and completed well before January 20-would dramatically improve Americans’ faith in our electoral process and would significantly enhance the legitimacy of whoever becomes our next President. We owe that to the People.
“These are matters worthy of the Congress, and entrusted to us to defend. We do not take this action lightly. We are acting not to thwart the democratic process, but rather to protect it. And every one of us should act together to ensure that the election was lawfully conducted under the Constitution and to do everything we can to restore faith in our Democracy.”
The Trump campaign presented evidence of voter and election fraud, but Attorney General William Barr, who stepped down before Christmas, has said it did not meet the level of overturning the election.
Cruz’s call for an investigation and an unprecedented delay in formally certifying Joe Biden’s victory is seen as a condition that is all but certain to not be met, the people said. Cruz is poised to then oppose certification.
Still, several other senators are in talks to follow Cruz, they added. It is not yet clear how many will, and whether any or all will vote against certification, or simply object or abstain.
Discussions between senators’ offices were ongoing Saturday, the people said.
Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., has already said he will object, teeing up a lengthy process on Jan. 6 that is unlikely to stop the results but might splinter the GOP.
Alabama GOP Rep. Mo Brooks revealed that House Republicans do not plan to stay quiet when the time comes to challenge the results of the election.
Alabama Republican Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville is also on board with challenging the Electoral College votes.
The legitimate winner of the election should be banging the drum for this to remove any question as to their legitimacy. Therefore Biden is hiding in his basement and his party will fight this tooth and nail.
There should be 50.
WHILE I find this 10 day delay problematical, it is apparently the only game in town right now
I would prefer that Congress just did its job and reject the obviously-fraudulent electoral votes
it will at least prove that Congress is capable of one honest act in our lifetimes
The media and deep state can NOT allow any talk of “voter fraud.” It must be complete and absolute denial and ridicule.
To admit even the slightest potential for fraud would break-open the dam of suspicion, and entirely wash away their legitimacy and power.
America invades other countries to “impose democracy.” What would Americans do once they realized their own country was not “a democracy?” When people stop believing the governing ethos - you get the collapse of the Soviet Union.
I hope all of the senators without the ‘nards to stand with Cruz get primary challengers from the Republican party.
It’s all just political theater at this point.
Not impressed.
I hope he does better than his recent Supreme Court case.
"Look at those loons who believe that Clinton eats children and the election was stolen."
The law says that the validation will take place on January 6th. Changing that would require a change to the law, and there is no way McConnell or Pelosi would push that through. Both are comping at the bit to get this whole thing over.
Congress doesn’t have the power to reject fraudulent votes. But it does have the ability to present to the public and to the state legislatures (again) evidence of facts that make legal vote counts indeterminable.
SCOTUS has the ability to hear the State legal cases regarding the Constitutionality of election changes made without the approval of the State legislatures, but has, incredibly, bowed out of that opportunity.
All of the resolution of this lies with the State (Republican) legislatures, and none of them are doing anything about it. All they need to do is de-certify on the basis of the legal and factual evidence produced. They’re lack of action is extraordinary because they’re betting that the Republican voters are going to forget this in their next state legislature elections.
understood
it is tragic for our country that we are afflicted with such traitors and commies and scum
but.. I am still (against all odds, admittedly) hopeful that the DNC election theft operation will be blocked
we will see
hope hope hope

The Constitution says nothing about electoral votes regarding Jan. 6.
Correction welcome.
Congress most assuredly does have authority to accept or reject electoral votes, per US Constitution.
(furthermore, the D’s tried to do it in 2005 and 2017)
“It’s all just political theater at this point.”
Absolutely. It took 2 months (which is quick for Cruz) to figure out that his future chances to become president are FINISHED if he didn’t, at least, appear to support Trump - particularly after Hawley supported Trump.
Ted Cruz was quick to steal Josh Hawley’s thunder.
I’m okay with it if it results in a REAL audit.
Josh Hawley is the one who deserves a medal of courage, here.
In order for Trump to retain his office they need to delay until the time limit is up. Otherwise the corrupt Governor’s will simply recertify the fix. This 10 day delay helps this happen.
ANY who do not stand up against this CRIMINAL ELECTION will NOT BE RE-ELECTED. Put that in your pipe and smoke it MITCH, you little CCP bitch.
He’s already got my vote in 4 years.
No sour grapes because of 2016 and stood behind Trump on major conservative issues.
He didn’t jump on the Covid bandwagon, proposing ever more idiotic ideas just to “show action in the face of crisis.” Instead he actually went after real issues like rare earth resources and our dependence on them...
He has proven himself *rock solid.*
