My garbage collection guys should be put inn charge of vaccine rollout. They can't possibly screw it up worse than the health folks...
The plan was publicized back in October.
Honestly, aside from very few people—no one else read it. Clearly many state DPH folks just found out there was a pandemic.
The media did not read. The states did not read it. So everyone blames The Feds. This was NEVER the Fed’s responsibility. Just as distributing stuff from a FEMA warehouse is NEVER FEMA’s job.
If you think the rollout is going bad, don’t look at DC. Look at your State Capital.
Why not? They have designated routes where they stop every day, right? Any fearful sheep along their route that wants the vaccine, can get it on garbage pickup day.
The fearful country folks can trickle into the clinics to get their dose of feel-good.
No kidding. It’s just another justification to sock it to President Trump. The governors haven’t stepped up to the plate. I wonder if they’re waiting for the one that doesn’t require such extreme temperature maintenance, for one thing.
Don’t get caught up in the media disinformation in Florida a couple million doses have been distributed, the vaccine is getting distributed properly but the local health departments are deciding what social justice group to reward first, in a county near me it’s chaos because they have move to vaccinating the general public and the people who scared of being in public are flooding the vaccine centers and camping out overnight
And County DPH.

The job would get done
Instead of worrying about the vaccines and looking for blame about it, you should be going after/blaming the FDA for failure to give FDA approval for drug combos that are successfully keeping infected folks from developing hospital necessary illness. With some drug combos hospitalization is avoidable in most their cases, rendering recovery and natural immunity to the recovered. I’d rather have the natural immunity my body makes than a vaccine (never had a serious case of the flu & never had the flu vaccine).
I have been following the WA State vaccine distribution plan process. About a month ago after reading the October Draft Plan and listening to podcasts of the weekly public briefings by the WA State Department of Health, I decided to respond to their plan as they had offered the opportunity to provide feedback.
I logged onto the feedback site and it only allowed around 100 characters of feedback. Clearly, they only wanted positive feed back and nothing detailed. So I gave them feed back that the plan with vacant positions shown and no real plan. They were fussing with focus groups about the distribution algorithm with no thought on either collecting data needed to contact people to tell them they were authorized to get the vaccine nor the logistics of delivering the vaccine. They had no concept of critical path planning and expediting a project. I told them that they had only a couple week before vaccine delivery would overwhelm them.
I then wrote a detailed email to the head of the group giving him specific problems I saw with their plan and areas where it would likely fail. I got a nice response back saying that they appreciate my comments, but there is a shortage of vaccine and that they are focusing on the delivery of vaccine to state 1a medical personnel.
So, as expected in the last week of December, they had about 4 to 5 times more vaccine that had been delivered in December than they had used to vaccinate front line medical responders. In the last week in December they “solved” their problem by opening vaccination up to “all medical personnel.”
They with even more deliveries on the horizon, they decided that they would use an “honor” system and create website questionnaire the people would fill out take a screen shot of and present to any pharmacy or vaccination center to get vaccinated. They acknowledged that there would be some cheating, but felt that this was the best way to get the vaccine to the people.
Now, we will see if the website can handle the demand and if the questionnaire was sufficiently beta tested so as to anticipate common user problems. Personally, I doubt the website and questionnaire will work as they expect it to.
Now as to the divide between state and federal responsibility. The States of Washington, Oregon and California (all Democratic Governors) formed a joint pact to have an “independent” group of 3rd party medical experts review the vaccines before they could be allowed to be used in their states. This was probably a way to corruptly pay some medical campaign donors, but a clear indication that states were in charge of distribution and going to be the ultimate authority on if a vaccine was to be distributed.
While the press and Governor are trying to blame Trump, at Least in WA State the failing party is clearly the WA State Department of Health. The same people who failed miserably on rolling out Covid-19 testing, failed miserably on tracking people exposed to those diagnosed with Covid-19, and failed miserable in protecting the elderly in nursing homes, even though this is the State where we first learned about how deadly the disease was to the elderly in nursing homes.
Why would I want it? The slower the better as far as I am concerned. Vaccines aren’t needed for what amounts to cold or even less for the vast majority of people under 60.

I'm guessing it is a case of the Federal Government delivering the vaccine to the various states, but then it is up to each state to distribute it, and administer the shots. Given what we have seen in the pandemic, most Governors are nothing more than crooked imbeciles and now they can't decide who will be "rewarded" among their 'donors' and cronies.
The CDC has a good dashboard that shows doses distributed and administered at the state level. The large majority of states have administered 20-30% of distributed doses. South Dakota appears to be the most efficient, with nearly 50% of doses received having been administered.

Here in Oregon, I got the surprise of my life a couple of days ago. I’ve been a hospital volunteer at our rural facility here on the Coast for 15 years. We’ve been furloughed ever since last March due to Covid. Most of us are senior citizens, mostly women. Out of the blue, our Volunteer Manager E-mailed us all to inform us that we could go in by appointment and get the Moderna vaccine - available to all “active” volunteers. Can’t imagine that we are very high priority for the vaccine, I would surmise that all hospital staff have already been vaccinated.
Social justice is getting in the way of vaccine distribution.

Retired doctors are apparently required to undergo diversity training before they can help administer vaccines.
