McConnell slaps back Trump — repeatedly
Axios ^ | 1/1/2021 | Mike Allen

Posted on 01/01/2021 9:10:52 AM PST by Alter Kaker

It took four years and an election defeat. But someone with real power inside the Republican Party is standing up to — and swatting back — President Trump: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Why it matters: This is a preview of the power struggle that will define the Republican Party in 2021.

You saw this with McConnell acknowledging Joe Biden as President-elect.

You saw this with McConnell blocking Trump's push to raise stimulus checks to $2,000, which would have split Senate Republicans. And you're seeing it now with his effort to curtail futile resistance by the GOP to congressional certification of Biden's victory.

Yes, but: Until now, McConnell's strategy was buffeted by the chaos Trump created. Now, the Senate leader — whose autobiography is called "The Long Game" — is finally able to set the party's course.

"McConnell is trying to reclaim the role he had in 2009 — leader of the opposition to a new Democratic president," said a Republican operative familiar with the leader's thinking.

What he's thinking: Depending on the outcome of Tuesday's Georgia runoffs, McConnell will have to find a way to protect — or regain — a Senate majority, in the face of Trump and his operatives promoting candidates who could win primaries but might well lose.

During Trump's presidency, Axios' Margaret Talev points out, McConnell gained from an alliance that yielded 200+ lifetime judgeships — including three Supreme Court justices. As ex-president, Trump carries more liability.

The bottom line: Beginning 19 days from now, McConnell is the most powerful Republican in the land.

"It always amazes me the number of FR readers who do not bother to investigate the author of a piece or its provenance. In this case both the author and his publisher are well known uber-leftists."

This.

This. This. This.

We have Freepers who attempt to cover their own lack of knowledge, their own lack of research, their own lack of curiousity, and approach the guy who knows what's going on, and ask a hundred stupid questions and hope to elucidate an answer that comes closest to their own personal, uneducated narrative.

It's like watching the kid in class who fears the fact that he hasn't studied a lick ask the teacher question after question to avoid being called on for the actual answer.

Retirement-bored Freepers who post preposterous articles from MSM Narrative agitprop machines precisely so they can make preposterous statements and then, when set straight with facts/citations/links, either disappear from the thread, or straight-up tell you to your face that's how they get real information -- by being purposefully annoying.

Mitch wants a return to the previous status quo, with the Dems all powerful and the Reps willing, but simply unable to overcome the nasty Dems. He hasn’t the balls to implement Trump’s agenda. I am completely over these “leaders”. We may have to do this ourselves.

Yeah, the writer is a leftist. But he is correct, McConnell IS trying to recalibrate the party away from Trump and he does expect Trump voters will come to him.

We are about to be subjected to a firehose of bullshit from the GOP convincing us that only THEY can save us. It started with Loeffler and Perdue.

There is one possible scenario left and that is if Graham, Rubio and a few other senators can get five (5) more Republican Senators to support an up or down stand alone vote on the $2000, McConnell will have to retreat. The odds are long against that happening, but five (5) More republican Senator Votes can do it. Stay tuned.

It seems obvious that McConnell is politically compromised because his wife is part owner of a shipping company that operates out of China. China is the shipping company’s largest customer. Big bucks for the McConnells. Ergo, McConnell is on the take from the Chicoms predictably. How can he be objectively fair in this country’s dealing with the Chinese? He doesn’t seem to have the cajones to say no to the Chinese and protect President Trump.

The liberals are singing mcconnell’s praises.

This is the old beltway fake news hagiography that Republicans apparently crave. Gorsuch got one after voting to give trannies coverage under the Civil Rights act of 1964. McConnell is no doubt reading all this stuff with great satisfaction.

From Wikipedia...

“Criticism and controversy

Allen has attracted criticism for focusing coverage on superficial aspects of politics and of the culture of Washington D.C.[9][1] In November 2013, The Washington Post wrote a lengthy article detailing a payola scandal in which Allen would give favorable Politico coverage in return for advertising dollars.[10] Allen has refused to publicly comment.[11] Jonathan Chait described Politico’s response as ‘evasive tripe’.[12] Writing in Salon, Alex Pareene described his work as “indistinguishable from a paid advocate for business interests.”[13]

In November 2015, Allen made an apology after the website Gawker reported that he offered to let Chelsea Clinton screen interview questions in advance of a proposed interview. The offer was made in a January 2013 email exchange between Allen and Hillary Clinton’s aide Philippe Reines. He also promised in the email that the interview would be “no surprises” and “no risk.”[14]

Personal life

A somewhat reclusive figure, Allen has a profile by Mark Leibovich reported that many of his friends did not know where he lived, and that none of them had ever been inside his apartment.[1] A colleague who knew him in earlier life described him as living among ‘mounds of newspapers and a couple pieces of junky furniture’.[16][7]”

Sounds like a first class loser and scumbag.
