McConnell slaps back Trump — repeatedly
Axios ^ | 1/1/2021 | Mike Allen

Posted on 01/01/2021 9:10:52 AM PST by Alter Kaker

It took four years and an election defeat. But someone with real power inside the Republican Party is standing up to — and swatting back — President Trump: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Why it matters: This is a preview of the power struggle that will define the Republican Party in 2021.

You saw this with McConnell acknowledging Joe Biden as President-elect.

You saw this with McConnell blocking Trump's push to raise stimulus checks to $2,000, which would have split Senate Republicans. And you're seeing it now with his effort to curtail futile resistance by the GOP to congressional certification of Biden's victory.

Yes, but: Until now, McConnell's strategy was buffeted by the chaos Trump created. Now, the Senate leader — whose autobiography is called "The Long Game" — is finally able to set the party's course.

"McConnell is trying to reclaim the role he had in 2009 — leader of the opposition to a new Democratic president," said a Republican operative familiar with the leader's thinking.

What he's thinking: Depending on the outcome of Tuesday's Georgia runoffs, McConnell will have to find a way to protect — or regain — a Senate majority, in the face of Trump and his operatives promoting candidates who could win primaries but might well lose.

During Trump's presidency, Axios' Margaret Talev points out, McConnell gained from an alliance that yielded 200+ lifetime judgeships — including three Supreme Court justices. As ex-president, Trump carries more liability.

The bottom line: Beginning 19 days from now, McConnell is the most powerful Republican in the land.

There is great value to politically eviscerating the Republican Party that has betrayed the principles that it claimed to have and the man who has been the greatest President since Washington.

That was cool to read so thank you for posting it.

The Republican Party of 2021 - minus Trump of course and a modest number of others - treats hardworking American citizens as peasants to be exploited as cheap labor.

The new party should be called the America First Party.

That way, its mission will be in its name, and no one who runs as a member of it will be able to betray the mission.

Mitch wants to reopen the poek spigots for all GOP Senators
and is willing to risk losing the Senate to get that.He himself is a Communist China trader via his wife’s relatives. The CHYNA policy of President Trump grates into Mitch’s very grifting soul.

What Mitch is involved with is what we might call a wet dream. A premature redaculation of the populist GOP. A pre-emptive strike.

But we are on to him. If Mitch lost the Senate I would not lose a wink. That’s because the populist vote will take back
both Congress and the Presidency after reforming the fraudulent election machines in at least 5 states, including Georgia.

Mitch is exhalling his dying gasp at present. He could have supported the president but has chosen instead to become a GOP dinosaur.Welcome to the world of Darwin Mitch!

Piss off. Bad things happen to traitors during civil war or revolution. We will see if there is any fight left to save the Republic from the leftist menace.

Not just lose Majority control, but make it look like Republicans are the ones out to screw the average citizen. Sure it’s the Democrats that first combined it with pork, but it’s Mitch the Bitch that won’t let a clean vote come so he’s just as guilty

Yeah, in normal times a 2000 dollars pay-off like this would be stupid and unnecessary, but this chicomm virus has hurt us ALL, left, right, black, white, conservative, liberal.

Mitch hates responsibility. He likes being in the minority: All the perks, with none of the responsibility.

Didn’t the 🐢 have Trump’s back during impeachment? Didn’t the 🐢 get through a tax bill and a pile of Judges?

A lot of people on this board slam any person, including a conservative Republican, if they go slightly offside against Trump.

To tell me the 🐢 is solely responsible for the loss of America is an over the top statement.

Complete garbage. The only reason mcconnell didn't vote to remove Trump was to save his own sorry ass. No way would he have been re-elected if he did. That tax bill had plenty of pork in it. As for the judges, mcconnell only allowed Trump to pick judges he approved of, otherwise they were DOA. If you noticed, all the judges were from the Federalist Society, no friends of Trump's. And here's the clincher, mcconnell never put the senate in recess so Trump never got to make a single recess appointment. mcconnell had/has more control over the executive branch then Trump ever did, he made sure of that. mcconnell killed the Tea Party and did his best to kill Trump.

The facts are the facts. He actually took charge of the trial and ensured it was not successful. You are just upset because he is not supporting Trump on the issue of the election.

He can shove his head back into his shell.

Either back off Hawley and allow a debate on voter fraud or Trump goes third party and takes a wrecking ball to the Republican party.

And, this a-hole better understand, anything, including civil war, is on the table unless measures are taken to assure free and fair elections.
