SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California’s health care system is in the throes of a coronavirus crisis stemming from ill-advised Thanksgiving gatherings, top executives from the state’s largest hospital systems said Tuesday as they put out a “desperate call” for residents to avoid a Christmas repeat they said would overwhelm the state’s medical system.

Increasingly exhausted staff, many pressed into service outside their normal duties, are now attending to virus patients stacked up in hallways and conference rooms, said officials from Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health and Sutter Health, which together cover 15 million Californians.

The CEO of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital in Los Angeles, Dr. Elaine Batchlor, separately said patients there have spilled over into the gift shop and five tents outside the emergency department.

The officials offered what they called a “prescription” for Californians to slow the virus spread, a marketing effort dubbed “Don’t share your air.” The underlying message is to stay away from people from other households, which is what many failed to do at Thanksgiving.

“We simply will not be able to keep up if the COVID surge continues to increase,” Kaiser Permanente chairman and CEO Greg Adams said. “We’re at or near capacity everywhere.”

The state reported 32,659 newly confirmed cases Tuesday and another 653 patients were admitted to hospitals, one of the biggest one-day hospitalization jumps. A state data models predict nearly 106,000 hospitalizations in a month if nothing changes. The current level is 17,843.

An investigation into actual circumstances at each hospital is the only way to verify. If it is true that active cases are piling up beyond the ability of medical resources to address, then how can this be in places that have gone overboard to shut down association and commerce?

Once they have us tied to our jobs and our homes and restrictions placed on travel... They’ll find something new to keep us in lockdown!

Well, if the problem definition is that Cali is running out of hospital capacity, maybe these guys might want to focus on keeping people from getting so sick that they have to be hospitalized?

Maybe face the music and admit that ivermectin is close to 100% able to prevent progression to serious disease?

Maybe admit that fluvoxamine is as effective as ivermectin?

No? Oh, the lockdowns and economic damage are the point, I guess.

Has Gov. Newsance asked Trump to send the hospital ship back to L.A.?

No? I guess they’re not really overwhelmed.

Just at the doc’s office yesterday. I asked him if the ICU is full. He said it’s quite busy. Then I asked, “Is it all covid cases?” to which he replied, “That and other illnesses.” So, my takeaway is that it’s flu season, hospitals are busy, people are sick, docs and nurses working hard. His daughter, a hospital nurse, has Covid. It’s going around. He was very relieved to get the vaccine last week!

Saw a local broadcast tonight about CA hospitals being overrun, and they focused on LA.

Hmmm.

How many illegals are in our ICUs and other hospital beds?

I am not heartless, but I am tired of Americans being asked to go to the back of the bus. The bus we built and paid for no less.

He and the docs around that hospital are hard working, well-educated, reality oriented types. Getting the vaccine is an enormous relief for the ones who have been doing surgeries throughout this epidemic. They are hearing about covid patients day after day, the ones on the ICU. But remember, they also hear about patients dying all the time anyway. They take it in stride, soldier on using full protection in hospitals, then get immunized, thanks to our President. Covid burn out will become a distant memory for the frontline physicians and nurses.

Well, in that case, it must be due to bigotry against Mexican Americans, and somehow Trump’s fault too.

If you’re in NorCal you might think it’s a con, if you’re in a lot of flyover country you might think it’s a con, but if you’re in SoCal, it’s very real. For some perspective:
