Canada wants deeper environmental ties with the United States and one result could be a North American ban on the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks, a senior cabinet member said on Thursday.
Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson said Ottawa and the incoming administration of President-elect Joe Biden both agreed zero emissions vehicles needed to be deployed faster.
Canada will discuss with the United States how to achieve this and also improve the overall performance of the transport sector, which accounts for 26% of Canadian emissions, he said in a phone interview.
Talks with Washington could cover “what the European countries and Quebec and British Columbia have done, which is to put a date at which they will no longer allow the sale of internal combustion engines,” he said.

They must have plans to build 20 or 30 nuclear power plants. Either that or turning cars back into a “rich man’s toy”. There is no way the current electric grid can handle more than a small percentage of the cars out there being powered by electricity.
Get used to the idea of bans. There will be many of them coming in many forms.
2020 will look like the good ole days.
Isn’t the cost getting better? Can someone give me why they worry about EVS so much?
The Democrats give away the House with both hands once a generation. It is time.
Since the electric grid can’t handle the amount of e-cars necessary to replace gas powered cars everyone will have to stop traveling. All part of the plan to slaughter 90% of humanity.
I need to add that the whole global warming thing is an utter farce even worse than this nonsense pandemic.

Should go over real well in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Float it over Niagra Falls, eh. . . .
Yep. Hence my tag line.
And that’s even if Trump is re-elected.
Where do you suppose the ELECTRICITY to power those ELECTRIC VEHICLES is going to come from?
Prime Minister Mini Me is at it again
Even if you try really hard, lithium ion batteries lose charge over time, and batteries to my knowledge especially the EV ones, involve rare metals in making them. So if one uses it for years, there will be less distance from a full charge. Even the lithium batteries I do possess for various devices I ended up replacing after a few years because even if I ran them down as recommended, they lost capacity and life over that time.
How are electric vehicles going to work in Western Canada? Anybody in Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa thinking about that?
I’m pushing for a ban on Canada.
Ask yourself one simple question and that will help you out. If EVs are good for us, why must the government require their use?
All other technological improvements are readily adopted by the people because they are viewed as a step forward. Were cell phones mandated by government? Were personal computers mandated by the government? GPS navigation a requirement? This list of technology brought to the market and quickly assimilated by the people is very large. But EVs? Forced on us by the government, required to be sold, alternatives to be banned. Why?
