Re: The Highwaymen (2019)
Just now watched it. Sorry, but as expected, I thought it sucked. Way too drawn out and boring. Over an hour into it and still hardly a view of the subjects of the story: Bonnie & Clyde.
Costner, I thought, as usual, was dull and unconvincing in his role. Outside of ‘No Way Out’ I’m not aware of anything he did that was noteworthy. Never cared for him as an actor. No matter the role or time period he always comes across as an average ‘modern guy’ with little if any charisma or appeal.
Meanwhile, the original Bonnie & Clyde with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway had much more action and focus on the subjects right from the start. Not to mention the sexy appeal of Faye Dunaway as Bonnie, as opposed to whoever it is that plays Bonnie in this film. The Dunaway factor, IMO, was a good sized part of the likability of the original. I turned this one off after an hour-plus without once even seeing the actress who played Bonnie. And I was only gone from the screen for 2-3 minutes tops in all that time.
I’ve seen this movie before. The woman claims she was the unwilling participant and victim of abuse and then gets the lighter sentence. Later we find out she was the mastermind...
He plays a bad-ass Montana rancher in Yellowstone on the Paramount Channel. Also has a pretty good supporting cast.
Re: The Highwaymen (2019)
I understand that the subject of this film was obviously the cops (the “highwaymen”), not B&C, but still, B&C should have had lots more coverage than they did, at least regarding the first hour or so that I hung in there watching in.
Hey, the formula works, and the lawyers know it. Of course, I don’t know how it works in the People’s Republic of China.
The movie wasn’t about B&C. It was about the men who tracked them down.
Geez.

Yes, I know, and acknowledged that in my followup.
I may give it another try. The overall feeling I got from that first hour or so that I watched was that it was painfully slow and dull. So unlike the B&C film with Beatty and Dunaway.
The entire movie sets up the last 5 or 6 minutes. And in my opinion it does it pretty damned well.
But to each their own. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it.
Merry Christmas!

I’ll probably give it another try, now that I know what to expect.
Have you tried the one I linked to?
“Badlands” with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek.
I’m sure you will like it.
In any case, have a great Christmas and New Year yourself.
:)
Saw it years ago. But it looks like a good one.
Thanks!
