The Dan Rather Medals for News and Guts honor the process of journalism as much as the end product. They will be awarded to professional and collegiate journalists who go the extra yard — overcoming obstacles like stonewalling and harassment — to get the story that tells truth to power.
The Medals are named for Dan Rather, the legendary reporter and anchor who went far afield from his Texan roots but never forgot his humble beginnings. He has been an ardent supporter of the School of Journalism and Media, inspiring and advocating for our majors. He is a permanent member of the Moody College of Communication’s Advisory Council, where he has been instrumental in its extraordinary development. The School and the College sponsor the Dan Rather Medals for News and Guts to further his goal of supporting and defending bravery and excellence in journalism in the face of overwhelming odds. While journalism and journalists have long been under constant fire from the powerful, recognizing those who show “News and Guts” has never been more important than it is today.
As Rather once said, "News organizations and teams within those organizations have to have the guts and the backbone to dig into stories that people in power don’t want the public to know.” These medals in his name, to be presented to professional and college journalists, honor that effort.

Tiger Eye, everything you said is correct, but you neglected to include one of the worst, if not the worst, CBS liar and traitor: Walter Cronkite.
Cronkite didn’t spend a lot of time in Vietnam. Mainly in and out trips which don’t allow you to see much of the country, talk to the people, soldiers and US civilians.
Cronkite was reportedly tied up tight with some of the media’s top leftists. Think I saw Drew Pearson’s name on one such list.
You could spend years in Vietnam (and Cambodia and Laos) and still not know half of what you need to know to make a fact-based semi-accurate observation (never mind predictions).
In the end, it came down to one simple sentence/philosophy: We were there to stop Communist aggression. PERIOD
Anything else was either a lie (oil, minerals, lumber) or distorted (we love supporting dictators, etc). Thieu had more support in his elections for president than even Walter Mondale, Gene McCarthy and Comrade George McGovern ever did).
Some time’s Occam’s Razor is the best and most simple/accurate observation/conclusion.

There is no history that the left can’t whitewash or rewrite. When you control the channels of communication, you control everything.
Visited the “Moody School” web page linked. I note that they also have a “Cronkite Plaza”. So they have both the grandfather and father of fake journalism as honorees.
Personally, I think the “medal” would better have an image of a steaming pile of bullshit embossed, rather than the lying face of Dan Rather.

I’d never heard of it. I’m a ham radio operator and was never a rock music fan. “frequency” for me probably has a different meaning than to you.
But we both have the same view of Lying Dan and the rest of that era of talking heads. I hated them for what they did to the war and to the direction of the country.
