Biden order to halt border wall project would save U.S. $2.6 billion, Pentagon estimates show

The U.S. government would save about $2.6 billion if President-elect Joe Biden halts construction on the border wall project on his first day in office, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers estimates reviewed by The Washington Post...

The U.S. Army Corps estimates show there will be about $3.3 billion in unused funds in the project’s accounts on January 21. Army Corps officials have engaged in a series of meetings in recent weeks about how to end the contracts — and what can be done legally, and when...

While the Biden administration will have the ability to terminate or modify contracts with the construction firms building the barrier, those companies will be able to bill the government for “demobilization” fees that cover the withdrawal of crews, materials and equipment from the border. Those fees are projected to add up to about $700 million, according to the estimates.

The Army Corps also priced out a third option that would not add more linear miles to the barrier but allow companies to complete the roads, sensors and other “attributes” that are part of the contracts...

Construction crews along the border have been working round-the-clock in multiple locations to build the barriers as fast as possible before Biden takes office, anticipating that the project’s days are numbered...

A Biden decision to halt construction would deal the biggest blow to CBP’s efforts in South Texas, the busiest span for illegal crossings, which border officials identified as their top priority for new barriers. Crews are projected to complete about 30 miles of new barriers along the river levees in South Texas, far short of the agency’s goals.

There are a range of options, should Biden assume the Presidency.

Hopefully they would differentiate between projects and only shut down what can be done efficiently, rather than a mindless "train wreck" sudden halt to everything.

Also, those miles that were specifically funded by Congress (Rio Grande Valley and Laredo) should legally go ahead, but they could be sabotaged by an Administration that was committed to do so, by delaying and throwing up new legal obstacles.

It would save 2.6 billion but cost us the country.

And how many billions would we lose as a result of the millions of aliens who will stampede across the border, expecting to be given “free stuff”?

The costs to this country if the wall is not completed is incalculable.

That savings would just be redirected to some other project, even some newly dreamed up projects.

Furthermore, the massive number of illegals streaming into the U.S. would cost the U.S. many times the ‘savings’ of $2.6 billion.

It would end up saving the U.S. many times that amount, if the wall was completed, even if the completion ends up costing 50 billion dollars more. Better to spend $50 billion than having to spend $20 billion or more each year to support the illegals coming in.

If Biden/Harris are allowed to take power after stealing the election, what the hell does a boarder matter anymore anyway? The country is done. Stick a fork in her.

If completing that wall will save just one American life...

Funny, for people who accuse of having no heart they, seem totally unconcerned about the human cost of an open border on the lives and quality of life of our fellow Americans.

Saving 10 billion is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of more people who come across and get free healthcare, free babies delivered, 3 generations compared to 2 of ours free phones, internet, get half their mortgage paid ,gas vouchers, free food........not to mention the crime that comes in. They explode the educational system and the prison system. They poach animals, burn their garbage including polyhydrocarbons at night, dump whatever they want by the side of the road including couches, cars...you name it!
This is not the cream of the crop coming.
People are sick and tired of it! They are losing businesses!
And the deep state hauls them in by the millions!
FOR FUTURE VOTES BY HOOKING THEM ON GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS.
They cost more than10 times 10 billion!

And how much would it save the US in terms of housing, educating, feeding and providing medical care to tens of thousands who will cross the border?

$2.6B in a $4T+ budget isn’t even a rounding error.

Are you sure it’s that much? Nanzi was pretty flinty with allocations for the wall. I think DOD had paid for most of it.

I believe they estimated about $700 million in terfmination costs (wastage), to come away with that $2.6 billion recoupment.

Mountains of materials are already on hand - maybe $200 million just in steel bollards, that would have to be scrapped.

It is hard to say if they are looking at terminating all projects, or excluding those funded by Congress, and just looking at terminating those for which the President diverted funds. That seems to be what the numbers indicate, but they can scuttle the Congressionally funded projects (RGV and Laredo Sectors) through other sabotage, rather than direct termination.

There should have been massive termination clauses written into those contracts.
