As the coronavirus outbreak continues to surge, more small businesses are forced to shutter both temporarily and permanently.

Massachusetts has been no stranger to the pandemic’s devastation. New research reveals that as of Nov. 16, the number of small businesses open in Mass. decreased by 37% compared to January of 2020.

Small business revenue in Massachusetts has dropped 44% compared to the start of last year as well, according to the Economic Tracker tool from Opportunity Insights, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization at Harvard University that aims to use insightful scientific research to impact policy change.

...

“Massachusetts is seeing the same sort of national pattern with the economic crisis hitting smaller businesses particularly hard,” Sebi Devlin-Foltz, a member of the Opportunity Insights’ policy team, told the Boston Herald.

The economic fallout small businesses are facing can be attributed to the fact that most people are staying home and spending less, while spending with online retailers has gone through the roof, Devlin-Foltz told the Herald.

And you have idiots in Government who have never run a business, who think they will proclaim "we stuck tougher, wore masks, social distanced, and beat Covid! Now we can get back to normal and see each outer again, go out to eat, etc." and expect all to be normal, meanwhile hundreds of thousand are out of work, have no prospect of work because their employer is no longer, etc.

No worries. Build Back Better. They will be reopened by government funded worker owned cooperatives.

The state was talking about businesses paying their sales tax and service taxes DAILY. That’s just crazy.

The budget shortfall in the state is going to be crazy next July.

If we are lucky, we will have a couple big blizzards just to empty the rainy day funds.

According to Dr. Fraud, we may get get to normal (i.e. concerts, full stadiums by the 2021 NFL season opener). If that is the case, MA and other lefty states will keep restrictions in place until late Summer, killing what is left of their tourism industry, etc.

I expect MA to be billions in the hole by July 2022.

It’s funny. I hear of the horror stories in other states.

The “decrees” here have been modest at best. Yes, I wear a mask in the stores. But I can go eat out when I want. No one was counting cars in our driveways. No one was stopping cars, asking where you are going.

I would take MA over a lot of other places.

It might be liberal, but there has never been a complete lockdown. Just “advisories.”

On January 1st our unemployment rate was just over 2%. But our Trump hating RINO Governor put a stop to that. And now there's talk of him getting a post in President Heels Up’s Administration.

MY brother, who has been retired for over 13 years said that at least 40% of nation’s small businesses will be gone and not return.

Some may be replaced with new ones, but 40% will be GONE.
