At a moment when Britain is disquieted by scandal about Prince Andrew, disgraced for his friendship with the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein; the ongoing drama of Megxit, the withdrawal of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from royal duties; and the rift between the two royal brothers, William and Harry, the British TV soap opera, ten episodes of The Crown, season 4, has appeared to provide alleged entertainment of the doings of the British Royal Family.
Because it is lavishly produced, well written, carefully acted, and cleverly invented, it is easy to accept The Crown as an accurate representation of a twenty-year period in British history. However, no one should be confused. It is not a documentary of the life and behavior of Queen Elizabeth II, members of the Royal Family and associates, in the stately homes of Buckingham Palace, Windsor, and Balmoral, and the prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. Rather, it is a psychodrama written with what can generously be termed artistic license about the actions and motivations of the leading figures.
Some of the invented incidents in The Crown can be noted. Discussions concerning Lord Mountbatten and Prince Charles, or the supposed political dialogue between Queen Elizabeth II and Michael Fagan, who infiltrated Buckingham Palace and spoke to the queen in her bedroom, or the tension with Margaret Thatcher because of personal concerns about the safety of her son and public concerns over the Falklands war, are not accurate representations of history. In particular, all of the remarks of Elizabeth, who bestrides the series as a colossus, are invented.
One troubling image is the depiction of the relationship, mostly prickly encounters, between the queen and the prime minister. More controversial is the picture in an unflattering light of the prince of Wales, trapped in a loveless marriage,

The Queen would have NEVER treated PM Thatcher the way it is depicted in The Crown. It is a DRAMA. Made up stories to keep the attention of the viewers. Sadly, I have one friend who believes all she sees in The Crown. She told me ‘well, you will always side with the Royal Family’ (my husband is British) when I tell her the things portrayed in The Crown aren’t true. And now she has ignored two of my calls.
The Royal Family stays with ‘no complain, no explain’. It’s really all they can do.

I have wondered whether it isn't the commoners who live under the monarchy and accept their place in it, as a source of pride for all things British Empire. My SO who lived in London for few months was baffled by the constraints of a true class system. All this changes with the advent of Empire invading the UK to remake the rules and memory of history. Charles may be such a cock-up that it will all end with a whimper.
I don’t understand the Royal thing, I would never want to support a family with my taxes just because it’s tradition. (Yes, I do know we support do nothing families here in the US and it’s called welfare).
But what gets me is Charles and Camilla. He married Dianna for “duty”, while still carrying on a lifelong affair with Camilla. Now he is married to her! It’s really pretty sick if you think about it.
Lastly, Camilla and KaMAHla are both whores who got to where they are now by sleeping with someone.
Charles is only 22 1/2 years younger than Elizabeth, so there is a good chance his reign will be short. William otoh is 33 1/2 years younger than Charles.
I watched the season that covers the tenure of Margaret Thatcher (The Falklands and Gulf Wars).
I don’t recall the name Reagan being mentioned once.
Just like whatever else we get from Hollywood, The Crown is filtered and twisted to support Leftist narratives, and the rewriting of history in the popular consciousness.
It is however being done with a bit more subtlety and higher production value, than say a Michael Moore “beat you over the head with it” movie.
It was terribly convenient that Diana had died prior to the Camilla marriage, as it made Charles a widower instead of a divorcee in the eyes of the Church of England.
People forget that Camilla fully possesses the title of Princess of Wales, she merely chooses not to use the title.

Right-I always suspected that was misrepresented. First and foremost, politically-the Queen is on the ‘conservative’ side, and Maggie Thatcher CERTAINLY was...all her life

That is a slap in the face to their close relationship. They each made videos to be played at their respective funerals.

The left hates the British Crown, and Margaret Thatcher, so no surprise here since Netflix cozies up with the likes of Obama and Megan Markle. The way they depicted Thatcher was especially suspect. There’s always an agenda with these people, and some people still believe everything they see on TV.

Agree. My friend who is displeased with me for pointing out the truth about The Crown, absolutely believes that Markle was treated so badly in Britain because she is part Black. RACISM, don’t you know. The FACT is that Markle was treated with the utmost deference in Britain, until she started pretending she was more important than she really is. Made servants cry, wanted a specific tiara to wear for her wedding and pitched a fit when the Queen said no. The tiara that Markle wanted did not have clear providence and may have been owned by either the Nazis or the Communists.
And never mind that Markle upstaged Princess Eugenie (a REAL BLOOD PRINCESS) TWICE in 2018. Eugenie had announced her wedding at Windsor, scheduled for September. Markle pushed Harry to propose and then they scheduled their wedding in the same place just a few months earlier than Eugenie. Sucking up all the oxygen that goes with a Royal wedding. And then Eugenie’s wedding was pretty much ignored where, when she announced heir wedding, it would have had all the attention of the year. Then the ultimate betrayal for attention, Markle announced her pregnancy at Eugenie’s wedding reception. How appalling! Sucking up all the attention at Eugenie’s wedding reception. We all know that Markle is an attention whore. But her antics just kept on and kept on putting the spotlight on herself. Every event. If you look at any of the pictures of the Royal family when the Markles were still in the UK, you can see Markle is ALWAYS looking at the cameras. No informal pictures of her, while the others look relaxed and normal. There is always her ‘photo-op smile’ plastered on her face. I detest Markle. Can you tell?
