People walking around downtown Ithaca over the past few months may have noticed something different — more graffiti.

Gary Ferguson, executive director of the Downtown Ithaca Alliance (DIA), said the increase in graffiti began around the start of the COVID-19 lockdown, in the middle of March leading to the beginning of April.

Defunding the police, even partially, is already bringing the chickens home to roost in Ithaca, the City of Evil.

I’ve heard they were second to Portland.

Maybe they could be sister cities.

In liberal fever, that's probably so. Fortunately, not in overt property destruction.

Yet.

If Trump is successful, Ithaca will join the rest of the country in catching fire. If not, then hopefully the Biden celebrations will be restrained by the lockdown. Though without police, that's doubtful.

Boxes full of switchblades and machetes scattered around the city might help resolve things quicker...

Up until COVID hit I was playing in a band with a woman who grew up in Ithaca and whose father was a professor at Ithaca college. She was a good singer, but an absolute kook. City of Evil indeed!

Entering Ithaca from the south you pass under our “Bridge to NOWHERE”. There is a banner on it saying that Ithaca Police Department is HIRING.

Funny, since a recent budget proposal was that 8 (ALREADY LEFT VACANT) police officer positions be ELIMINATED!

DEFUND THE POLICE is alive and well in Ithaca.

snip
“74.4 officers
With a permanent population of about 31,000, that means the Ithaca Police Department should have 74.4 officers. Nayor said IPD is currently operating with 61; however, 10 are out on leave and are not active, bringing the functioning total to 51. Additionally, three more officers were injured that week during an arrest.Oct 21, 2020”

So on 10/21/2020 The City of EVIL, I mean Ithaca, Should have 74 officers and they have only 48 on duty.

I had a room mate from Ithaca—he was a gem. But that was 1989.

I also suspect he was not typical.

Having lived in both, both are weird but Ithaca is surreal.

Q: How many surrealists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: A fish

“”You get what you vote for.””

That is such a trite - tiresome statement. We DON’T vote FOR what we get - someone else does that! We voted for Trump but Biden may go to the WH? How does that work?

I went to graduate school in Ithaca, NY thirty years ago and the area felt pretty safe, even when the killer in the grisly Harris family murders in nearby Dryden was on the loose. I also remember a Cornell undergrad died after being punched by an Ithaca College student downtown one night and so that was perhaps my biggest fear - getting drunk at one of the bars near the Commons and being sucker punched by some IC dude bigger than me. Don’t get me wrong, Ithaca was the City of Evil back then, too.
