I’m wondering if King David got the memo that personal behavior is a deal killer?

Bottom line: We are not voting for Trump to be leader of all men to God, we are voting for a person to run the government.

Which one will run it better?

Imagine actually thinking Trump’s bragging is a sin. What’s he supposed to do? Say he’s the worst millionaire real estate investor ever?

the other candidate who is guilty of sins of “unrepentant sexual immorality” and “unrepentant boastfulness”

Solomon was boastful and sexually immoral, but God still picked him for the top job.

I’ll let God worry about bringing people to repentance. I’ll worry about whether the person seems intent on steering our country into the rocks or not.

Thank you, Mr. Grundem for your thoughtful reply on my behalf. I love Pastor John Piper and have read many countless of his excellent books, but Pastor Piper was wide of the mark with his article/commentary.

I deeply love Jesus with supremacy, and in the that I continue to earnestly beseech the Lord that Donald J Trump is reelected.

The Pious Piper is pretending that he doesn't understand that presidents appoint the Federal judges that micromanage our lives.

He's doing the work of The Great Deceiver - whispering in the ears of Christians as they go forth to the crucial battle of Federal judicial appointments.

Though I find President Trump’s personality refreshingly blunt ... and I enjoy the ways he shoves the Golden Rule back into the faces of those who treat him as they must want to be treated ... and in ways that only a New Yorker can(!), ... personality is not why I would vote for or against President Trump.

From a Christian point of view each election, I want to know if the candidate is/will be fighting for God’s agenda.

Or, if the candidate is/will be fighting against God’s agenda and is/will be instead fighting for Satan’s agenda ... whether they know it or not. Satan is the deceiver, after all.

With my vote, among whose number am I standing and being counted?

With President Donald J. Trump, I see a man who is on God’s side ... and ... who also has all the right enemies(!), too.

In Donald J. Trump, I see a man who is using the temporary powers he now has while in office to fight for God and fight against Satan’s plans and people, both here in America and beyond our borders, whether fenced or not.

Those who stand against him fight for Satan’s stuff.

Perhaps the most important hill for him/them is abortion at anytime for any reason.

They fight to remove God from all aspects of human life and replace Him with them.

They feel fully justified to lie, to slander, to judge and ridicule anyone for any reason if this is what it takes to advance their causes and fight for the hills they will die on, like with legalized abortion, for one example.

President Donald J. Trump is their enemy, because he fights against them as they fight for Satan’s stuff, whether they know it or not!

I really don’t care about President Trump’s personality anymore. Actually, I kinda like it now.

It’s one of his best weapons against God’s enemies, who are MY enemies, too, in this spiritual war for our nation and our souls.

Our choice is to re-elect President Trump or endure President Harris, as Biden won’t last long in office if elected.

Four More Years!

True. Impregnating a married woman, and then getting her husband killed in a theater of war — and thus bringing a curse upon all his children — would not meet Mr. Piper’s high bar.

I personally feel that John Piper is one of the greatest Bible teachers alive today, but his position on the presidential campaign is ludicrous.

Until Jesus returns to earth and sets up His kingdom, we will always have flawed leaders. When we have the privilege of picking our leaders, it is always a pragmatic question of picking those who a less flawed.

If we are deciding to attend church somewhere we certainly want to be taught the Bible accurately and practically. Leaders in this sphere must lead by example and have expertise in their job.

If we look for a plumber, our first priority is that he can do the job. Certainly we want to know they are not dishonest or criminal. But we would not hire someone with no plumbing knowledge just because he has great character.

Likewise, we would not get medical treatment from someone merely for having great character. We rarely even have the opportunity to know the character of the experts we hire. If I have brain surgery, I want the best brain surgeon I can find.

President Trump is the best person for the job. Period.

Piper made the mistake of acting like a celebrity who thinks everyone cares about his personal opinion because he has a lot of followers. He should stick to teaching broader principles about civic duty and the responsibilities of Christians toward society and our form of government.

I can understand not endorsing a candidate because a minister has a greater mission to reach the lost, regardless of their political persuasion. Perhaps a Trump sign in a pastor’s yard might limit his ability to share Christ with his neighbor. In this case I think Piper’s public non-endorsement of either candidate damages his reach to more people than if he had simply kept silent.

I still have no idea how anyone can know if someone is repentant or not. That’s between PDJT and God. Who cares if someone repents out loud? People say lots of things about their relationship with God (@pelousy) and based on their actions, are unbelievable. As for me, I feel our President had a come to Jesus moment sometime during his marriage to Melania and his actions while he has been in office confirm that for me. But, as stated by others, only He knows your heart.

and we are electing a President of the United States.

We are NOT electing a Minister in Chief, Nor a Pastor, Nor a Priest, Nor a spiritual leader of any kind.

I am so sick of Christians whining and wringing their hands because Trump is mean and says mean thing. Some of these ‘Christian Leaders’ should go back and read the Gospels of Mathew, Luke and John and take note of what Jesus Christ said to Pharisees, said about temple leadership and chasing out the money lender at the temple.

Jesus did not whine about his problem. He made bold statements and took bold decisive action all that was necessary.

He also claimed (rightly so) that he was the messiah and the son of god.

Donald Trump has done much of the same thing also rightly so. There is nothing comparable to DJT and Jesus Christ
but it is blatant hypocrisy to call out DJT for actions that our own Jesus Christ did and for the same reasons. Evil and wickedness need to be called out.

Any Christian that would allow either by, voting for or through non participation, of a pedophile, corrupt, traitor, lying, and mentally challenged Joe Biden should really be fearful of standing before Jesus Christ on judgement day and hearing “I knew you not”

“...one candidate who supports policies that endorse “baby-killing,” “sex-switching,” and “socialistic overreach” (evidently Joe Biden) to the other candidate who is guilty of sins of “unrepentant sexual immorality” and “unrepentant boastfulness” (evidently Donald Trump).”

I’m sorry, baby-killing trumps all the rest. Unrepentant sexual immorality (which I assumes is not meant to include sexual assault), and obviously unrepentant boastfulness (who is free of this sin? Not old Joe Biden, that’s for sure)just don’t tip that scale very much compared to baby-killing and the celebration and glorification of baby-killing.

Any minister who would offer those examples needs to go back to Seminary, if not High School.
