Germany and France announce new lockdowns as coronavirus cases spike in Europe

Both Germany and France announced new nationwide lockdowns on Wednesday as Europe enters a deadly new phase of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chancellor Angela Merkel says German officials have agreed to a four-week shutdown of restaurants, bars, cinemas, theaters and other leisure facilities in a bid to curb a sharp rise in coronavirus infections.

Merkel and the country's 16 state governors, who are responsible for imposing and easing restrictions, agreed on the partial lockdown in a videoconference Wednesday. It is set to take effect Monday and last until the end of November.

Merkel said, "We must act, and now, to avoid an acute national health emergency."

I just finished a fantastic car trip to Zion National Park and stayed two days at Springdale, Utah. The drive from the Grand Canyon north rim up to Zion is amazing. If you can - I highly reccomend.

Yes. In the United States, our first priority between now and Tuesday is to avoid getting sick, so we can vote on Tuesday. Tuesday, our first priority is to vote. Our lives depend on that vote.

Note though that Europe keeps schools open—in this shutdown too. They prioritize children and education.

In the United States, schools are the first to close, and stay closed.

A major mistake. It will not stop COVID cases. It will only delay them. Meanwhile their economies can’t afford such a hit.
