The True Cost of Marijuana: A Colorado Town That Went All-In
The Epoch Times ^ | 10/27/2020 | Charlotte Cuthbertson

PUEBLO, Colo.—It’s a common story across America: A city loses its main employer, usually a manufacturing company with well-paying, blue-collar jobs (that often go to China). The city’s economy crumbles, and those who can move out, do.

Decades later, and looking peeling-paint tired, the city hasn’t managed to recover, but drugs have found a permanent home.

In Pueblo, Colorado, the manufacturer was a steel plant beleaguered by a market crash in the 1980s and worker strikes in the 1990s. And one drug was given a red-carpet welcome.

For years, Pueblo has been looking for industries to revive its economy, and when recreational marijuana was legalized for retail sale in Colorado in 2014, many saw it as the answer. More people would be employed and the tax money would go to schools and infrastructure.

When are they going to make it illegal to insult marijuana?

I agree. It makes you addled brained.

You know a town is in decline when it invites in drugs, whores, and gambling.

This is not how you MAGA.

People are so in denial about pot. It is so sacrosanct. . They can’t seem to understand that this is different than what was around a few decades ago. It would be like if all beer had the alcohol content of 151 rum.

Pot heads are useless slackers just like drunks and druggies.

Medical pot is doing the same thing as recreational. Two hundred bucks makes one a legal doper and useless SOS.

Because of the soaring THC levels, which are causing psychosis and other mental issues, expect the dispensary owners (which are big companies) to be in the same situation as big tobacco.

The pot industry has an aura of benevolence tobacco couldn’t buy for $100 billion.

One freeper told me I should “grow up,” and do the work of a coworker who couldn’t do her job because she was eating edibles all day at work.

Alcohol damned near killed me thirty years ago. It’s a miracle I never killed anyone while I was driving around drunk on my ass. It’s still legal. Weed would do the same. The difference is the law. You have to be 21 or older to drink. Drugs dealers don’t ask kids for id, that’s for sure.

People are in denial about booze too. But it’s legal.
