I'm been a huge opponent of electric cars for several yrs now. Even at work there was a co-worker who had leased a electric car for the Tax Advantages of it and got a nice juicy tax refund for it, I openly opposed him to his face.

However these electric cars do have a huge risk in the form of its Lithium Battery packs.

We all remember how for many yrs we were seeing cellphone and laptop batteries spontaneously exploding and catching fire, so much so that today you cannot transport lithium batteries on airplanes.

Almost everyone thinks that in case of these types of fires you simply grab the nearest fire extinguisher off the wall and use it to put out the fires. However LITHIUM is a combustible Metal and that type of fire is classified as a Class D. 99.9% of all fire extinguishers sold are classified as Class ABC. Class D extinguishers are for lithium car batteries and they cost 10x more than the previous ones.

So if you think that in case of a Electric car fire is gonna be easily dealt with, then think again!

For over a generation now, the radical environmentalists have been fighting the nuclear industry tooth & nail to shutdown all nuclear plants and no one wants to even have the spent nuclear fuels in their backyards.

However if you think that spent nuclear material is bad, imagine having a highly combustible metal as Lithium there! Try putting out a lithium fire is much harder (and expensive) than deal with traditional combustible materials esp as Lithium is also toxic for the environment.

Enjoy your mega dumps of Lithium graveyards that will spring up within 5-10 yrs with thousands of tons of lithium just sitting waiting to explode like a old Cold War Era Russian Weapons Dump. I wouldn't want to be 50 miles near one.

Lithium electric cars are very short sight vision for profits and no vision for the hazards of the future.

I appreciate your kind words re my son. I am enjoying LED bulbs now, but 20 or more years ago I replaced all my old light bulbs with CFLs. I paid utilities on three 4 story row houses. At that time I realized I was saving about $1000 a year on electric bills. Since electric rates have gone up that is more than $20,000 saved. A few of my CFLs still have not burned out, but the rest now have LEDs. I have only had about 3 CFLs break in all those years, and had very few fail. I recycle them at Home Depot.

Wouldn’t lithium be a good candidate for recycling like aluminum and glass?

Does anyone in the dimrat party know what hydraulic fracturing is and that it has been used since the 1960’s?

And why is it such a big problem now?

Sure it can be, but its very dangerous to have around.

as with the comparison with cellphone & laptops batteries, but for the battery packs for an electric car will now weigh 800 pounds of Lithium vs 7 ounces for a laptop.

Can u say Big Bada Boom!!??

I’ve read that even suburban women democrats rank climate change and clean energy issues very low on their list of priorities or interests.

I guess SOMEONE must care about this though. I know the very wealthy white Dems do—they have no more pressing issues to care about I guess.

I read something funny: the majority of Gen X males care about climate change NOT ONE BIT.

But maybe—their grown children work in PA industry?

But I worry about this issue too. It’s like every rally Trump focuses on “natural resource” things, like farmers in Nevada. Are there really that many farmers in the desert? What if the truth is most workers are in Reno and Las Vegas in tech or whatever else? Maybe it’s about turnout but everyone watching a rally is already turning out.

I know nothing about PA but I wonder how many people in PA really work with coal, oil, fracking. Maybe it’s really a minority of people in those industries.

There will never be a last drop of oil. It will just get more and more expensive if and when it dwindles away. And it may not dwindle away.

We make hamburgers in labs now, for example. Maybe we can make oil that way too. (Forgive me, anyone reading this who is in the industry—I admit my ignorance a bit here).

“We can get plenty of power from wind and solar”

I can tell you that we cannot. I live in sunny CA and now we now all have to take turns having power because the wind and solar is too weak on hot days or our new hazy smoky days in the fall.

So everyone I know has now bought generators.

I noticed Biden seemed old and out of touch, but quaint, when at the debate he used the term “gymnasiums.” (meaning 24 hour fitness type places).

Both these candidates are quite old but at least Trump tries to stay modern, as best he can, and I think he’s finally stopped using the term “suburban housewife” and now just says “suburban woman.” Thank God.

On to Gen X for the next set of candidates in 2024. And they better not skip us and go straight to the Millenials!

And yet the President doesn’t really explain what he’s done for healthcare because it doesn’t fall under the big government umbrella.

But Biden said his healthcare plan wd bring lower drug prices, price transparency, PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS ALREADY DONE THIS with favored nation for drug prices and Improving Price and Quality Transparency in American Healthcare,

Instead of a massive gov’t plan, he’s taking successful steps to achieve what Obamacare couldn’t. Really wish he had ads for this.

He just promised to end fossil fuels.

Here is the salvo we should fire, This will kill Spacex, Boeing, Blue Origin, Nasa, etc...

Todays 100th successful mission by Spacex could be the last one if Biden wins. Vote Trump to save Space exploration.

How do we get Trump to stump this on the trail. HELP...

I have heard about the lithium problem with laptops and cellphones, especially on airplanes. Have there been similar fire problems for autos, compared with gasoline fire problems? Of course unlike aluminum and glass, lithium would need some type of special collection and recycling. The trash center at Chincoteague, VA has sections for trash, recyclables (paper, plastic containers, aluminum), motor oil, metals, and misc. junk like TVs. When I came with a bag of noxious weeds covered with seeds, I was told to take it to the landfill 7 miles away for burning.
