San Juan, Oct. 18 (EFE).- Supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump in Puerto Rico held this Sunday a caravan throughout [the capital] San Juan to show their endorsement for a second term, despite the [island's] residents being unable to vote in [the] November 3 [presidential] election while being U.S. citizens.
Since July 25, 1952, Puerto Rico defines itself as a U.S. Commonwealth, a status that confers some autonomy thanks to its own constitution but leaves under Washington's control certain matters such as borders, defense, diplomatic relations, or currency.
Puerto Ricans [in the island] cannot vote for President because, according to the norms the Commonwealth status follows, they have no voting members in the U.S. Congress (House of Representatives and Senate).
Most "Trumpists", as Trump's supporters are known, carried the U.S. flag as they rode in their cars during the caravan that left the neighboring municipality of Carolina and reached the local headquarters of the Republican Party in Santurce.
SENATOR SUPPORTS TRUMP FOR HIS POSITIONS
[Puerto Rico] Senator Nayda Venegas participated in the caravan and stressed that she supports Trump because "he has helped the churches, African-Americans, women, believes in God, and doesn't believe in abortion."
"The Democrats don't believe in any of what I told you," Venegas pointed out.
The Senator also criticized Trump's opponent for the presidency, Democrat former Vice President Joe Biden who, unlike Trump (according to her), believes in abortion.
"We Puerto Ricans are not like that. As a Puerto Rican, I have to make my voice heard and say there is a man who wants to be the nation's president and thinks contrary to what Puerto Ricans think," she emphasized.
In the same manner, the legislator highlighted that Trump has been the U.S. President "who has helped Puerto Rico the most, and that's in the record", and that he supports "statehood" or the Caribbean island's annexation to the United States.
THE CARAVAN WAS HELD TO "SET THE CORNERSTONE OF THE FUTURE"
Nelson Andino, one of the caravan's organizers, explained that the event was to "set the cornerstone of the future" for Puerto Rico as the possible 51st state of the U.S.
"I guarantee you that 2024 will be another time. Today is the first day. I don't care if there are 2,000 cars, but these people give me hope, and we will have much work [to do] in four years, whoever wins the [Puerto Rico] governor's race," he affirmed.
Andino also said that the purpose of the caravan was to "show to the nation's and Puerto Rico's political establishment that there are Republicans here, and that the island is not a leftist territory as the local press and other media who want to support the Democrat candidates wish to claim," he alleged.
PREFERRING A RICH PRESIDENT WHO FIGHTS AGAINST CORRUPTION
Andino additionally maintained that he supports Trump despite Puerto Ricans' inability to vote in the U.S. presidential election "because I'm tired of corruption."
"I prefer a multi-millionaire president, one you can't buy, one who won't go into politics to get rich," was Andino's opinion.
Along the same lines, Andino pointed out that, under Trump's presidency, several federal officials have been appointed [for Puerto Rico], among them W. Stephen Muldrow who, as chief of [the local] U.S. Attorney's office, has investigated several local politicians and has arrested others on corruption charges.
"This means that we have a president who is willing to end what has kept Puerto Rico kidnapped for so many years, that being political corruption and a regrettable culture of dependence on the state. It's time for the citizen to have individual responsibility," Andino stated.
Amid all these situations, Andino indicated that, if Puerto Rico really wants to be another state of the Union, it has to behave like one.

If Biden or Harris or any other national democrat campaigned in Puerto Rico, they’d be surprised at how much the democrat policies differ from the mind-set of Puerto Ricans. Which is why I believe that, if Puerto Rico were to become a state, that it would not have democrat senators, as democrats now believe.
