I was a teenager when Watergate happened. It led the nightly news on all three (soon to be four) stations every night for about two years. Many nights would be entirely devoted to Watergate, with all other news given in the last 90 seconds of the broadcast.

Newsweek, to which I had a subscription thanks to my parents, had something like 58 consecutive covers devoted to Nixon and Watergate.

There was a paper somewhere that took to putting all Watergate-related stories in an easy-to-pull-out section so people could discard it if they wanted.

During the height of the Watergate hearings, Art Buchwald had a column to the effect of “what did we talk about before there was Watergate?”

The difference between Watergate and the way the Biden scandal has been covered explains pretty much all of the national politics in the United States for the last 50 years.

We all have been played for 50 years.
