Should You Cancel Thanksgiving? What Fauci and Other Experts Say About Celebrating During COVID
newsweek ^ | 10/22/2020 | KASHMIRA GANDER

In a year where COVID-19 has killed almost 220,000 people in the U.S., many families will be looking to Thanksgiving as a chance to regain some normalcy. However, meeting up to celebrate could place people at risk.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, White House coronavirus task force member and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CNN earlier this month that while people in some parts of the country could have a "relatively normal" Thanksgiving, others should consider only meeting with immediate family.

No plans that I know of by the relatives.

I’d just assume have a supreme type pizza or really good double cheeseburger and fries anyway. Along with a few RC colas.

***However, meeting up to celebrate could place people at risk.***

Life is full of risks. Yes, even walking out your door is full of risks. Heck, staying inside your home is full of risks.

We have already made arrangements to visit my MIL for Thanksgiving. She is 92, doing fairly well physically, but terribly lonely. Even though she has family visits every couple of weeks, and a caregiver 3 times a week, she is just hanging in there.

No chance we won’t be there, unless physically unable.

H.E.🏒🏒 NO. Thanksgiving is our family's favorite holiday & major get-together. We all love it & look forward to it every year. We had an 80 person wedding mid-September with NO COVID issues & do not expect any from Thanksgiving. Two of our family members are 90+ & neither will likely be here next Thanksgiving. Measures will be taken (if they want them - one did, one didn't during the wedding) for distancing/masks & we will not lose the opportunity to spend time with them at Thanksgiving.

I may do it. At least my brother’s family has figured out taking enough Vitamins C, D3, E and K goes a long way in fighting off COVID-19.

I would rather be killed by Covid than by lonliness, at the end of my life..

Almost all of the immediate family that we would be celebrating with have had the crap, got over it and are now continuing on with life without Fauxi, masks and all their other BS.

Fauci, Gavin Newsom, and others love to pretend they can wave a magic want and cancel America.

Does everyone remember, back in the beginning, restrictions were put in place, to “flatten the curve”, so that hospitals and healthcare providers would not be overwhelmed???

And the thinking was that restrictions would last for a couple of weeks to get things under control??

And yet here we are, months later, still grappling with restrictions, and with restrictions to last indefinitely, at least in some parts of the country.

And all of this for a virus which is not going to be fatal in the vast majority of cases.

Everyone is an enemy? Including me. How many million "enemies" are we talking about?

But protests are not superspreaders according to Fauci? That's either one smart virus or one "bought and paid for" Doctor.

My family will be starting a new tradition this Thanksgiving. We will have a mask burning. The little ones will be given sparklers so they can dance around outside and the adults will burn their masks in the fire pit. Then Grandpa here is going to sit in his chair and take a nap.

Good point. All the isolation and loneliness felt by some people, is part of the collateral damage of the restrictions put on us, supposedly to “protect” us.

No matter what attention whore Fauci says.

I don't think people are paying a great deal of attention to what Fauci says anymore. I spent last week in a very rural area and had to drive 18 miles to a hardware store. I was looking in the console for a mask when I saw people entering and leaving with no mask. I took the mask in just in case but not even the cashiers were wearing one. I went from there to a grocery store and they had the obligatory sign on the door, so I put the mask on and was one of two in the store wearing one.

The left has always hated Thanksgiving. No surprise that they are using covid to eliminate it.

To paraphrase POTUS - I’ll follow Fauci when he can show that he was right about more than 50% of his recommendations for AIDS/HIV, Avian Flu, SARS 1, Swine Flu, SARS COV2, etc. If correct predictions and curing diseases are the measures of genius in his field of endeavor, how can he claim status above “moron”? What virus has he conquered lately? I expect silence so profound that cricket noises would sound like thunder.

I was reading an article earlier today about testing of the polio vaccine in the 1950s. The bottom line was that polio ravaged society all over the globe during the first half of the 20th century, FDR being one of the most famous patients.

Did we cancel life? Did we lockdown? Polio was considered nearly 3 times more contagious than COVID-19; we just dealt with it.

Now, the Left has created this mindset that we must be completely safe from everything, at any expense. It's time to realize that we may not have an effective vaccine for a long time, if ever. Protect the vulnerable, but let otherwise healthy people live their lives, including holiday celebrations.

She tells us that. She’s not afraid of getting CoVid. She said she will try to fight it if she gets it, and I don’t doubt her for a second. She’s just finished radiation treatments for cancer, and doing great! Barely any other issues.
