Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee, worked to forge a “grand bargain” with congressional Republicans on deficit reduction during the Obama years. As part of the effort, the former vice president openly advocated for putting entitlement programs, including Social Security, on the negotiating table.
Shortly after taking office in 2009, President Barack Obama and his administration were struck with a complex problem. The economy, which was still in the midst of the Great Recession, was struggling to rebound, with job losses, bankruptcies, and home foreclosures running rampant. At the same, the deficit was at an all-time, hitting 8.9 percent of Gross Domestic Product, because of the Bush-era tax cuts and recession required stimulus spending.

Sorry, as a senior I have to tell you this, Democrat seniors are stubborn old fools who will not listen. They remember Grandpa talking about Hoovervilles and they would NEVER ever vote anything but Democrat. Most of us seniors are quite sensible, but there are fools among us. Something has to be done and a phase in makes total sense. We have time to buy off the oldest cohort and still come up with something that's fair to everyone.

We put our money into the system for our Social Security. How about cutting entitlement programs for those who put nothing in, like welfare programs, assistance to illegal aliens, throwing away money to other countries? Democrats always want to steal money from Americans who worked for it, and give it away to those who didn’t work at all.

When you compare SS against the Biden/Harris proposals, SS pales in comparison. If Biden/Harris think forgiving all student debt won't bankrupt us, or giving free health care to all including illegal aliens won't bankrupt us, or giving a guaranteed income to all (meaning those who don't work) won't bankrupt us, etc., then they really don't need to propose cutting Social Security because in their minds nothing they spend our money on will bankrupt us.
