The above picture was taken about 25-30 miles from where a black bear was shot by the homeowner in Galena, Nevada, a bit South of Reno. That is an easy day travel distance for a bear. The bear pictured is not the bear that was shot.
On June 19, at about 2:30 a.m., a homeowner in Galena, Nevada, just south of Reno, head noises as if someone were attempting to break into his house. He exited the house with an AR15 style rifle chambered in 6.8 SPC.
A large black bear challenged him and started coming toward him. He shot the bear once, then as the bear appeared to be suffering, shot it again. After an extended investigation, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, NDOW reported no charges would be filed, as the shooting appeared to be self-defense. From thisisreno.com:
NDOW officers did find a bear print on the man’s garage door and were later able to get him to speak in greater detail about the incident, though their reports note that the man appeared to still be visibly shaken by it. He explained to the officers that he got about 7 yards down the sidewalk leading to his door when he saw the bear, which he said began making huffing and puffing sounds, a “typical bear stress vocalization behavior as a warning for others to back off,” according to NDOW officers.

What was the bear using?
Ironic, (interesting link in story) the 6.8 SPC was developed for accuracy over distance but of course, the bear was right there in front of him.
I love my 6.8.

my favorite too. have a 4x32 acog and load 110 grain blue tips ttsx. have killed a bunch of blk bear, wolves, moose, and lots of caribou with her. I can hit things close with eyes closed sometimes; just fits me well. ya know, I’ve had to reload brass with the 6.8; use more of it. in Alaska, everybody hunts with ars; usually 308 or 338 federal. I find my 6.8 is just fine.

Though I know it’s not the same bear, the bear in the pic doesn’t look like a black bear.
Overwhelming strength, huge claws, teeth and no fear.
I haven’t had the chance to try the 6.8. Due to the amazing bs they are shoving down our necks in western Canada, I have focused more on less calibers and more on equipment.
Things are going full tilt nuts now and I’m praying everyday that Trump wins this election.
The bear pictured is a black bear, in a color known as cinnamon. They’re not all black black.

Pretty wild. I've only seen black ones here.
