Yelp’s anti-racist social credit nightmare. The company’s ‘Business Accused of Racist Behavior’ tag is straight out of the CCP playbook
The Spectator ^ | October 12, 2020 | Melissa Chen

It’s seven in the evening and you’re working late. You’re interrupted by the soft rumble of hunger pangs, an unmistakable reminder that you haven’t eaten dinner yet. There’s this newish fusion restaurant a couple of blocks away that you’ve been wanting to try, but haven’t had the chance to. Every time you’ve walked past, it’s buzzing with activity. So you look the restaurant up on Yelp to see if it’s worth your time and money. You launch the app and search, only to be hit with an alert emblazoned with an ominously large exclamation point:

‘Business Accused of Racist Behavior’

The R word. It’s the new scarlet letter. You’re so taken aback that you almost forget that you’re hungry. Your mind races to find a possible explanation. Could it be that the staff racially profiled a diner? Perhaps, like Starbucks, the staff allegedly denied bathroom access to a non-customer who happened to be black? Then you remember that these days, fusion cuisine itself is often a flashpoint in debates about cultural appropriation. Maybe the restaurant is just racist by virtue of its existence?

Who knows. Luckily, Yelp has kindly provided a link to a news article where you can learn about the incident. Another stomach grumble urges you to stick to your original mission to find sustenance quickly. You’ll do the research later. Instead you order takeout from somewhere that’s familiar, consistent and fast. You’ve seen ads promoting the Travis Scott meal at McDonald’s and he just won BET’s rapper of the year so there’s no way you’re making a racist dining decision. McDonald’s it is.

This scenario that isn’t too far-fetched, thanks to Yelp, a company whose entire business is predicated on crowdsourced reviews about other businesses.

Why I don’t use Yelp or anything similar.

I’m more the word of mouth type.

I am hoping that Yelp! is just using this ‘controversy’ churn up free advertising and will drop it later.
However, if Yelp DOES implement this, I hope they are sued out of existence.
IN the meantime, it won’t have any impact or I will actually prefer ‘racist’ restaurants as a reaction to this crap.

Restaurants that want only good customers should simply post a sign that reads “No Niggards”. It means “no misers” and has nothing to do with “teens”. Bad money chases away good money so keeping the snowflakes out is often the difference between profit or loss.

‘Yelp Guilty of anti-American Behavior’

All these damned outfits think they’ve got their own little Pol Potish version of an American social reengineering dream going on. As if it could never backfire on them. I don’t want to hear them crying when they’re led to a ditch somewhere for their own little dose of lead.

warning to restaurants. Minorities can do whatever they want in your restaurant. Minorities can demand whatever they want in your restaurant or you will receive a scarlet letter.

Well. I wouldn't be so fast to condemn them, but only if they altered their functionality to do things other than report Racism.

Personally, if I were to use Yelp (I don't) and saw a "Accused of Racism" flag, I certainly wouldn't go through the handwringing outlined in the excerpt.

If I DID use Yelp (I don't) and saw an organization accused of racism, I would go out of my way to support that business and patronize it under the assumption that nearly all modern accusations of racism are from Leftists, and therefore baseless. Those incidents that are not baseless are likely individual actions or behaviors, and as such, likely not condoned by the owners.

However, if Yahoo incorporated the following reporting functionality into their program, I would DEFINITELY consider using it:

  • General Leftist Behavior

  • Virtue Signaling

  • Affiliation with or support of Terrorist/Marxist Organizations

  • Fails to protect patrons from Leftist aggressors

  • Overt support of Leftist causes or candidates

  • Allows employees to politically harangue customers

  • Is a hangout for Leftists

  • Displays offensive or Leftist material on the premises

I would find this most useful. If I saw any of these things flagged, I would immediately look for another place to take my business to.

In actuality, they could expand this further, to flag things in a positive way:
  • Supports 2nd Amendment Rights

  • Supports US Military and Law Enforcement

  • Protects patrons from Leftist aggressors so they can dine in peace

  • Overt support of Conservative causes or candidates

  • Prohibits employees from politically haranguing customers

  • Is a hangout for Conservatives

  • Displays patriotic or American themed material on the premises

See, if Yelp or any of these Tech giants were intelligent, they would allow this to be driven both ways. That way they could be even-handed, and customers could choose appropriately. Instead, they choose to drive away customers. Of course, these businesses are the ones that suffer, not Yelp.

Exactly

I don’t use Yelp to find food ever. I look at the parking lot. Tells me what I need to know

Blacks now have the USA in their hands to crush at will.
They don’t get what they want- they can destroy you and your business.
Screw ‘em- I I will make sure to give business to any place around here deemed “racist”.

Basically Yelp just enabled blackmailing of any business listed there.

Personally, I believe there should be extreme liability attached to this rating and no anonymity whatsoever.

one of my favorites showing the stupidity Antifa/Yelp

https://clearnewswire.com/465810.html
After announcing that it will now be placing “Business Accused of Racist Behavior Alert” buttons on the pages of businesses that may or may not be engaging in “racist behavior,” the crowd-sourced rating service Yelp has quickly transformed into a tool for Antifa and Black Lives Matter (BLM) extremists to create lists of offending stores to terrorize. This is already happening in Portland where @safePDX, a violent Antifa group responsible for organizing “protests” through Twitter, announced that it will be using Yelp to compile a list of “non-friendly” businesses throughout Portland that are caught “hanging blue lives garbage in their store or anything else that’s anti the BLM movement.” The now-private Twitter account, which currently has around 6,000 followers, further encouraged radical extremists to “[d]rop them below,” referring to the names of businesses believed to be in opposition to Antifa and BLM terrorism. Brothers Cannabis Dispensary, Portland’s oldest cannabis dispensary, is one of the businesses already being targeted. According to @safePDX follower Portland Sound Bloc, also known as “Rob” in a Portland Monthly article, the dispensary displays “pro-cop s*** in the windows,” and must now pay a price. The minority-owned dispensary, which has a majority of minority employees, responded to the accusation with a simple question, illustrating that Portland Sound Bloc has no idea what he is talking about and is gravely mistaken. “What Pro-cop thing are you talking about?” Brothers Cannabis Dispensary asked. “Are you referring to this portland police alarm permit we are required to display since day one?” As it turns out, Brothers Cannabis Dispensary, like all other Portland businesses that have an alarm security system, is required to display an annual permit showing that its alarm system is registered with the Portland Police Bureau. “Please cut this permit between the lines indicated, then tape it in a visible location, preferably near the entrance, for responding officers,” an image of the permit, as posted, reads.’

A display of alarm security system required by law. You can’t make this stuff up!

Something like Yelp is always open to fake reviews, positive and negative. Over the weekend I ate at a place I have gone to for years and have been satisfied. This time, I had the worst service experience in my life. I could have written a negative review, and if I wanted to really stick it to them, I could write that the bad experience was racially motivated. It wasn’t, but who would know otherwise?
