A previously unpublished interview with a Nation of Islam minister has revealed a detailed account of a secret two-hour meeting involving Malcolm X and the Ku Klux Klan that discussed an extraordinary unholy alliance.
The conversation on January 28, 1961, detailed in a forthcoming biography of Jeremiah Shabazz, reveals how, on behalf of Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X and a fellow minister sought the white supremacist terrorist group’s help in acquiring a “separate state” for black Americans opposed to integration.
According to Malcolm X’s fellow minister, the Klansmen offered Nation members the right to wear “purple robes” as Klan partners and sought in vain to enlist the Nation’s help in assassinating Martin Luther King Jr.
The meeting occurred after the landmark Brown versus Board of Education judgment in 1954. Organisations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People and civil rights leaders such as Dr King aimed to accelerate the pace of desegregation — in the face of stiff opposition from parents, school boards, and the terrorist tactics of the Klan.
The black nationalist Nation of Islam also opposed integration from its side of the race divide, prompting its leader to accept the KKK’s invitation and send Malcolm X to “meet with them devils” at the home of Shabazz, an Atlanta-based Nation minister. The ministers were to discuss common ground and pitch for land in partial reparation for slavery and the Jim Crow segregation era.
Drawing on an interview with Shabazz, who died in 1998, The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X, based on 30 years of research by the late journalist Les Payne and his daughter Tamara Payne, describes how Klansmen arrived in the minister’s black Atlanta neighbourhood in a ten-car motorcade.
Malcolm X said the meeting had been authorised by Muhammad.
A Klansman identified as WS Fellows sought to break the ice at the meeting by attacking Jewish people, whom he assumed were a mutual target and claimed were stirring up agitation among Southern blacks.
He bragged that he had been present in 1915 at the lynching of a Leo Frank, a young Jewish man who was convicted on flimsy evidence of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl. Frank was posthumously pardoned in 1986. “You should have seen that little Jew’s eyes bulge when we pulled that rope,” Shabazz recalled Fellows saying.
After Malcolm X made his case for “complete separation of the races”, as opposed to segregation or integration, enabled by the acquisition of land, Fellows replied: “Whatever you [. . .] want, it’s fine. Call it whatever you like. As long as you stay over there and you’re glad to be black, good.”
At the meeting, infiltrated by an FBI informant in the Klan, Fellows then suggested that Nation of Islam members could be “partners” of the Klan.
Interesting if true.

You would think that the members of the KKK would know the significance of "Purple Robes."
In the Middle Ages only kings could wear purple.
The tradition of purple robes signifying Kingship has been carried down through the years in numerous Christian religious ceremonies. It is well known.
The KKK would be signifying that the Black Nation of Islam was dominant over the White KKK.
Both sides wanted the same thing, total segregation. They planned to kill or sterilize all who were not pure enough. That this would be about 90%+ of the country did not seem to bother them.
I assume the agreement is not in effect anymore as the KKK is essentially defunct.

That is certainly believable. Presidents from Jefferson on, up through Lincoln, had similar thoughts. In fact, many DID get returned to Liberia.

We’ve paid one heck of a price for bringing slavery into this country. Thank goodness we only took in 10% of the total of all African slaves. Can you imagine what it would be like today if we had just doubled that number?

That said, with Christianity, purple for a variety of reasons became a liturgically penitential colour, and white trumps purple.

The Klan had no ability to make any sort of deal.
As far as these meetings of lunatic extremists, Marcus Garvey also met the Klan decades earlier and I think he was a member as an ally.
You need to re-read the Autobiography of Malcolm X. He wasn't called "Detroit Red" because of his politics. He certainly wouldn't have been keen on killing off folks who weren't racially pure.
I really think that is the solution to our race problem.
How many more decades of self flagellation and reparations do whites have to put up with before they come to the realization that this abusive and dysfunctional marriage ain’t working for either side and never will!!
Let each side go their own way, peacefully I hope, and each have control of their own destinies.
