With federal aid stalled, California is unlikely to get money to offset budget cuts

California is unlikely to get money to offset budget cuts worth billions of dollars with new coronavirus aid talks stalled in Congress.

But those cuts would vanish if the federal government sent the state more money by Oct. 15, which is Thursday.

California’s public schools, colleges, universities and state workers’ salaries all stand to be hit.

Can anyone here think of a good reason why the people in Kentucky, Texas or North Dakota should pay the salaries of California's legions of bureaucrats?

If Biden wins, the money fire-hose to Blue state governments, their employee pension funds and their vast array of government-supported social workers and street agitators is going to be opened full-blast

They’ll call it “stimulus” just like Obama did in 2009

No, and I can point to the Texas economic collapse of 1986 wherein CA senators and reps blocked aid to Texas with the same rationale. It needs to be repaid.

It’s just “federal money”. Nobody has to pay for it, ever. Just print more. Not sure what they teach in economics classes anymore.

History has taught us that as California’s government grows California’s “progressivism” gets exported as her people flee.

California’s public schools, colleges, universities and state workers’ salaries all stand to be hit.

Finally and they should also reduce the workforce by 25%.

I’m in CA, and I’ve pulled my high school sophomore out of public school this year and put her in private, and my high school senior is looking at only well run, red states for college: colleges that are already reopened, unlike Cal State and UC that threw in the towel early and have announced they will not reopen for in person education ALL YEAR. Why would I pay any tuition for that? Tuition is $15k/year, even for CA residents. Forget it.

So I don’t care about CA’s alleged “budget cuts” for schools (or anything else).

Too bad for them. I’ve taken their “customers” (students) elsewhere, and out of their clutches and away from their indoctrination. They can (and will!) tax me, but no more college tuition dollars or ‘average daily attendance” allotment $$ for K-12 children will be coming from me.

So CA spends like there is no tomorrow on stupid stuff including health care for illegals and now they want federal tax money to help out??

The nerve of these morons.

Go tell your buddies in silicon valley and hollywood that their taxes are going up.

No offense, but they don’t want your kids in those schools anyway.

That would take up room.

CA wants students from out of state and foreign students because they pay a LOT more than $15K.

DiFi and Kam’la as Senators? What do you expect in return for your state-sponsored ‘higher’ education camps aka public schools let loose as an electorate?

It’s what’s in it for them. For DiChiFi and hubby,, millions and millions off of gubamint contracts.. for kam’la, a place to burn to the ground, the WH.

From corrupt bidding to coddling criminals .. It’s almost like the old days.

I hope they go bankrupt. I hope Trump rolls tanks into Sacramento, arrests the leadership, and puts the state under martial law until Constitutional order can be restored, and fair elections held.

Oh but don’t worry, the very last people this kleptocrat govt here will let get hurt are the public employee union members. You know? The one’s that caused the state to go broke.

Wait... What?
They cut the budget... that means spending less money, doesn't it?

But they want federal money to offset the money they supposedly aren't spending?

True enough.

But I’d actually favor that we repealed the 16th Amendment and we got rid of all income taxes, and just ordered the Treasury to print the money it needed (excise/duties would still be allowed). Because if Congress overdoes it with spending, the value of money goes down... and when the people see the price of bread and milk start to inflate by double or even triple digits due to reckless spending, they will demand a change to spending habits and demand a budget that makes sense. It would change the entire political dynamic. It could even finally end this idiocy we have of “2 party politics”.

Instead what we have is this game where a “central bank” issues “bonds” that others “invest cash” in to float the government a “loan” to cover its deficits. It is a house of cards that will eventually collapse anyway. Might as well get it over with now so the whole of society will get a real education on economics.
