Turkey has “activated” a Russian-made S-400 anti-aircraft defense system to track F-16 fighter jets flown by several other NATO members, U.S. lawmakers and analysts suspect.
“The whole problem with having the S-400 integrated is in order to do that, you have to betray some of the codes and some of the, basically, NATO technology to the Russians,” the American Enterprise Institute’s Michael Rubin said. “And it appears that that's what they've done.”
Western officials have eyed Turkey’s turn to Russian arms dealers with alarm in recent years, but Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan defied the threat of U.S. sanctions to complete the pact. President Trump’s administration expelled Turkey from the F-35 joint strike fighter program to protect the cutting-edge warplane from exposure to Russian defense systems, but a recent standoff between Turkey and Greece created an opportunity to direct the armaments at U.S.-made F-16s.
“We have very credible reports that Turkey activated the S-400 in late August in response to joint military exercises being undertaken by Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and France in the eastern Mediterranean,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen, who sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a Thursday podcast hosted by the Hellenic American Leadership Council.
Those four countries, all members of the European Union as well as NATO, have been coordinating to force Erdogan to back down in disputes over control of energy-rich waters in the eastern Mediterranean. Their air exercises — known as Eunomia, or good law, in an apparent reference to claims that Erdogan is flouting international law — was widely perceived as a warning to Ankara.

So tracking some NATO F-16s means diddly squat as far as data security goes.
Suspect that does not mean the entire plane.
Electronic security in the control system is the issue. Not inside the plane but the C3I system and inter-phases.

And today, at some tech research lab in Ohio or Tel Aviv there are people figuring out how to jam it.

NATO knows that Turkey is not going to fire on a NATO aircraft. Period.
I'm no military expert but isn't that their purpose? Ironically the only Russian plane shot down in Syria was from a Turkish F-16 missile.

Turkey has rogue soldiers. They are occupying some of Greece for many years with No legitimate basis.
Turkey is a totally unreliable ally. In the beginning they were Anti Communist so they were allowed in NATO.
Under Erdoo, it is not the same.

If my memory is correct, there were 2 shot down by Turkey. One on the Syrian - Turkey Border and one near Manbij inside Syria.

I know they are recognized as independent countries. But relations between the two countries have been exceptionally close since antiquity. There was an effort to merge them.
Turkey is illegally occupying N. Cyprus. Turkey can never be trusted with anything. They have always been rogue.
So ce they have become Muslim dominated, treason and lies are their modus oparandi.

Turkey was also supposed to be the European manufacturer and depot-level maintenance for the F-35 as well. That was yanked from them over this S-400 air defense debacle.
TAI was also going to supply fuselage sections for ALL F-35s manufactured in the U.S. once full rate production began. Now that they aren’t, this has put a crimp in L-M’s logistics flow, but we haven’t hit full rate production yet, eitehr.
TAI builds a lot of their own aircraft and helicopters from scratch, so they’re much more than just a kit assembler.
Yes, I’ve seen photo’s and reports about some of their helicopters. Spartan, but functional. However they cannot hold a candle to the sophistication of most US aircraft manufacturers. Their pilots are not the same as ours, certainly not since the “Coup” (faux or otherwise). Their leaders are a brutal ruthless people. That has a cost that goes with it.
Correct, but ask Greece or Cyprus about that.
It is a serious mistake for NATO and the EU to continue making excuses for Erdoo’s Turkey. Eventually they will be forced to admit it is a mistake.

Erdoo’s Turkey is incompatible with NATO membership.
