Take Mr. Biden’s stance on the federal minimum wage, which he wants to increase to $15 an hour from $7.25. Why transfer income to low-wage workers as opposed to poor people generally? Mr. Biden has ignored the question. But even if you’re laser-focused on raising wages, there are better alternatives. The Earned Income Tax Credit increases after-tax wages and gives businesses an incentive to hire more employees—an incentive the minimum wage gets backward.
The EITC also allows workers the flexibility to negotiate with employers, accepting a lower wage in exchange for more-flexible hours or better conditions. The minimum wage precludes that. So why does Mr. Biden want to raise the minimum wage instead of the EITC? He hasn’t said, so I have two guesses, neither of which reflects well on him.
Guess No. 1: He’s dissembling about the cost. The EITC comes out of the federal budget, where the burden is visible and widely shared. The minimum wage, by contrast, comes directly from employers but indirectly (after firms shrink and prices rise) from consumers. A minimum wage is a stealth tax on eating at McDonald’s or shopping at Walmart.
It is understandable but disheartening that a politician would favor a stealth tax over a transparent budget item. Mr. Biden should acknowledge the cost of wage hikes and argue for accepting it. Instead he’s silent about the cost, hoping he can foist it on people who won’t realize they’re footing this bill.
Guess No. 2: He’s rewarding his friends and punishing his enemies. New York is going to vote for Mr. Biden. The state also has a high cost of living and high wages—so New Yorkers would be largely unaffected by the minimum-wage hike.

More accessible training, instead of formalized post-secondary training, would do a lot more to lift people out of poverty. The closer we can get to on-demand learning, without sacrificing quality, the closer we will get to what needs to be done.
I don’t care for the premise of the article. Like the writer I don’t want a minimum wage increase but the writer seems to think paying out tax dollars year after year as a reward for idleness is a good idea.
Just look at NYS.
Small businesses here were dropping like flies, even before WuFlu.
And get a load of what NYS has done after we hit the $15 threshold. Voters don’t get a say in changes. Those changes are instituted by committee.
An increase in the minimum wage will also fall heavily on illegals and will spur wage and hour enforcement against their employers. Sure, comprehensive and mandatory e-verify would be a better approach, but that will not happen due to opposition from business and the Democratic party.

Yes indeed after offshoring millions of decent manufacturing jobs the Cheap Labor Express tell us every day they hate the minimum wage, love LEGAL immigration and continues to alienate million upon millions of the working class. This is not how yo build a party of the middle and working class majority.
I would say $10.00 would be good and take this really divisive issue off the table.

$15 an hour hurts small business in favor of big business. Big business writes the big checks to the dems.
And the ‘raise’ will always be paid by the consumers. Which in fast-food joints (where the poorer people frequent for food) means elevated prices for product.
The government has no right to set a minimum hourly rate of pay, or any other price.
And the “minimum wage” earner is back where they started.
These days all the minimum wage increases do is subsidize robot manufacturers:
No wages, no health benefits, no unemployment compensation, no withholding taxes, no diversity or diversity lawsuits, no wrongful discharge lawsuits, no poor performers that require heavy supervision.....
The minimum wage increase crowd will make minimum wage workers an extinct artifact of a past age...

Most of the big OTR carriers are cutting starting cents per mile. Big thing is teams. Some offering as low as $56K a year for a team (that’s $26K a year for 70 hour work weeks. No pay for loading/unloading time, terminal time, down time due to mechanical failure, traffic or weather (oh wait - some offer a mere $25 for weather delays).
