A paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine has called for mandating a coronavirus vaccine, and outlined strategies for how Americans could be FORCED to take it.
The paper warns that an immediate mandate for the vaccine would spark too much resistance and backlash, so the writers suggest that at first it should be voluntary.
However, it suggests that if not enough people are willing to get the vaccine within the first few weeks of it’s availability, it should be transformed into an obligation, with penalties put into place for refusal.
The paper outlines “six trigger criteria” that need to be met before the vaccine is made mandatory, and that it should be rolled out to specific demographics of the population first.
“Only recommended groups should be considered for a vaccination mandate,” initially, according to the paper, which cites “high risk groups” as the first set of people.
“[T]he elderly, health professionals working in high-risk situations or working with high-risk patients…persons with certain underlying medical conditions,” as well as those in “high-density settings such as prisons and dormitories” should be mandated to get the jab, the paper says.
It also suggests that active-duty military service members should be among the first that are forced into the vaccination.
The paper proclaims that “noncompliance should incur a penalty” and notes that it should be a “relatively substantial” one.
It suggests that “employment suspension or stay-at-home orders,” should be issued, but that fines should be discouraged because they can be legally challenged, and “may stoke distrust without improving uptake.”
The paper also suggests that government health authorities should avoid making public their close relationship with vaccine manufacturers, to quell public mistrust.

The NEJM jumped the shark when it went all in on Obamacare.

The chief medical officer of Virginia said if he’s still in that position when the vaccine comes out, he’s for a mandate - you MUST take it. I think there are enough people opposed for a major revolt. They’ll try to force compliance by make it mandatory in order to attend school or if you’re a medical professional - if you want to attend school or have a medical job, you’ll have to take it. I was talking to someone at my dad’s cardiologist’s office - she said NO WAY, even if it means her job/jail. She said she wouldn’t even want her 93 yo mom to take it. Interesting times .... I think this situation is only going to get much, much worse. “My body, my choice” only seems to work in the case of abortions.
I will take it voluntarily as I am in a high risk group due to my age. I will be damned before I am forced to take it.

Lots of ass hats have opinions. Including the editorial board id the NEJM. they are insane and have violated the fundamental tenant of medical ethics called autonomy. Any physician who advocates that the vaccine should be mandatory, in my opinion, should be thrown out of the profession.
While I advocate for the vaccine and will be among the first to take it because I work in high risk environment and understand both the science if immunology snd epidemiology...it is unconscionable for any physician to impose his or her will on a patient.
It’s always the same way.
First, voluntary.
Then “voluntary” with penalties for non compliance.
Then compulsory with severe penalties.
Make me.
Doctors make recommendations about my body and health requirements. I make decisions.
I and my family will VOLUNTARILY get COVID-19 vaccination after it comes out... but it should NOT be mandatory.
These days one hopes the medical recommendations are NOT driven by the financial policy of the hospital or the political agenda of the doctor.

Great idea. Because nothing improves public trust than the public discovering later that there are secret agreements between government and private corporations.
Very unfortunately Trump has been as strong a proponent in this direction as he has been with 5G.
Together those elements pretty much establish total control and elimination of liberty.
Employers INS companies will mandate it and that will be that.
Easy peasy.
