CHOICES

An elderly carpenter was about to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was very sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.

When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front door key to the carpenter. "This is your house, he said, my gift to you."

What a shock! If only he had known he was building his own house, he would have done it differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. Sometimes we build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up with less than the best. At important points we may not give our best effort. Then with shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized that, we would have built it differently.

Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. Life is a do-it-yourself project. Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today.

Howdy, Kathy.

Were you lucky enough to get any of the rain showers that moved through today?

It looks like the wind is doing a number on the trees, blowing most of the leaves out of a lot of them.

Howdy, radu!

Hope you had a good day today! Is it still nice and cool? I have the AC on. Could be turned off before long. It’s 75...sort of on the cusp.

y, luvie.

It’s been a pretty good day. Yes, it’s still comfy cool during the day. 63 when I made a quick store run this afternoon.
No AC required here! Hubby finally tuned the gas on so we’ll have heat tonight if it gets chilly in the house. Not on yet but it’s there if needed.

I wish it would cool down there so y’all could enjoy some autumn too.

Good evening, radu, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Cotton getting closer to picking? Any rain?

Very windy today at times. Lots of raining leaves here.

A couple of short lived sprinkles, but very windy. Swept the deck off twice, but there’s more leaves.

Me, too. I think we’re going to have 12 months of summer. I will enjoy your cool second hand. LOL!

How’s your friend tonight/today?

Hey there, Kathy.

I could see and hear y’all had some wind up there today. A lot of the trees are half bare now. I’ll bet your deck and yard are covered with them by now.

Harvest time gets closer but is still a ways off. The cotton plants are getting covered with big fluffy cotton balls now.

No rain for us for at least a week according to the weather report tonight. That stinks because the air is full of dust. Like we need it added to the ragweed pollen. YUCK!

LOL! Might as well wait until the leaves are all down before you sweep. You’ll wear yourself out.

I’d hoped you’d gotten more rain than you did. It looked like there were some heavy showers in that direction but it was hard to tell just where they were.

The way things are going, you just MIGHT have 12 months of summer. It certainly seems reluctant to move out.

He’s hanging in there for now but has a long way to go before he leaves the hospital. I talked to his nurse this afternoon and Hubby chatted with him a little while.
