Republican sheriff in Douglas County endorses Democratic commissioner candidate ( Colorado - BLM )

Sheriff Tony Spurlock criticized the Republican opponent in an interview..

Republican Sheriff Tony Spurlock has endorsed Democrat Lisa Neal-Graves in the race for Douglas County District 2 commissioner.

In a Sept. 21 interview with Colorado Community Media, Spurlock lambasted one of Neal-Graves’ opponents, Republican George Teal, in a series of comments, including an allegation that Teal does not support law enforcement.

“I think he is dangerous for Douglas County,” Spurlock said about Teal.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Teal’s campaign said the endorsement “does not carry much water in Douglas County.”

“Previously, Sheriff Spurlock endorsed Clint Dorris, who was soundly defeated by George Teal in the June primary,” said spokesperson Ryan Lynch. “The voters chose George because they know he will stand with law enforcement to keep our schools and communities safe.”

...

Lynch said that by endorsing Neal-Graves, Spurlock was aligning himself with Tay Anderson, a Denver school board director who has voiced support for Neal-Graves on social media. Anderson, a vocal activist in Denver's Black Lives Matter movement, championed the decision by the city's school board to remove police from schools.

...

Lynch responded that after the passage of the Red Flag Law —which allows law enforcement to confiscate someone's firearms if a judge determines he or she is a threat to themselves or others — Teal voiced his belief that the county shouldn’t fund the “budgetary items” related to that law.

Spurlock, who also crossed party lines when supporting passage of the Red Flag Law in 2019, has been in office since 2014.

Neal-Graves reached out to Spurlock as the summer’s Black Live Matters protests spread across the country, she said.

...

Spurlock said he will remain neutral in the District 3 commissioner’s race between Lora Thomas and Darien Wilson.

I can’t get out of this state fast enough. Been here since 1969, with some luck I’ll be out of here next year. Looking at The Villages in Florida.

A good choice. I have relatives there. My aunt and uncle on my dad’s side. They love it there. The vast majority are Conservative to the core. They voted for Donald Trump overwhelmingly in 2016 and they are more determined to do so in 2020.
That said, do your research. In addition to the cost of a home there, which is high for Florida, there are many monthly costs above and beyond.
But, if you have the means to live there it is an elderly person’s dream location. The activities and camaraderie are unparalleled. My aunt and uncle say they would not choose to retire anywhere else. Regardless of cost.

"Been here since 1969"

Newcomer, eh?

I've been here since '68. (Boulder was my residence off & on alternating with Ft Collins until '86, and since then just FC).

Pay much attention to Denver/Boulder in those days?

Denver:

La Raza Unida, Corky Gonzales, "Chicano" activists.

Broncos always at the bottom of their division. Only talent on the team was star college running back Floyd Little ("Little up the Middle").

RINOs and Leftist Dems (like Dick Lamm) "reaching across the aisle" to make us the most extremely pro-abortion state in the US.

Denver represented in Congress by leftist Patsy Schroeder who ran the House Armed Services Committee yet still couldn't say the word "Nuclear" (Nukeelar) .

Boulder:

"The Hill riots" in 1971 - I think they called out the National Guard?

CURB = Citizens United to Restore Boulder. All 4 City Council candidates on their slate lost to liberals in 1970. But just a few years later, Tim Fuller and Penfield Tate were recalled due to their spearheading a gay rights ordinance. (Turned up the heat too quickly on the frog in the pan).

The ZPG = Zero Population Growth law for the City of Boulder, along with the statewide vote to ban the planned Denver Olympics, both sprang from the same utterly selfish motive of: "Now that I have just at this moment arrived here and bought a home, it's an absolute imperative that we preserve this wonderful [city|state] by passing laws to keep anyone else from moving here, starting now!

Mountains:

The Strawberry Lake Peace & Light & Whatever Festival, near Granby.

"Hippies vs Cowboys" meme.
Hippies settling down in former ghost towns, squatting in abandoned mine shacks.

Ski areas where you heard "WATCH OUT BELOW!!" yelled several times a day, when some doofus getting off the lift far above you didn't take care to fasten the ski binding's "safety strap" around their ankle before setting the ski down flat and pointed downhill, resulting in a heavy, pointy-tipped "runaway ski" rocketing your way at 40 mph.

Sheriff Spurlock is a a dangerous cop.

He let a rookie cop try to illegally take a man into custody on a mental health hold who then shot at the cops. The cops responded with a SWAT team and killed the man. The senior officers did nothing to stop the rookie cop. The rookie cop was killed in the first shootout. The cops then lied their asses off about the entire incident, but the video showed what really happened. They guy the cops killed was also running against Spurlock for Sheriff.

Spurlock believes in the Red Flag law, but not if the target of the law is a cop. He thinks he should be able to take guns away from anyone at any time.

Spurlock is known as a pro-cop anti-citizen blue-line tyrant.

I just got back from Florida doing a house inspection. We should close in a few weeks. We’re outta here as fast as we can. “Republicans” like Spurlock are a prime indicator of just how liberal the Republican party is in Colorado.

“there are many monthly costs above and beyond.”

Colorado is FAR more expensive to live in than Florida.
