Matt Gaetz: McConnell ‘sure as hell better deliver’ on court nominee vote
Washington Examiner ^ | 21 September 2020 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 09/21/2020 7:53:42 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, a self-styled firebrand and close adviser to and surrogate for President Trump, on Monday joined the GOP chorus calling for quick approval of the Supreme Court nominee to be put up by the White House and urged voters to punish Republican senators who block action.

Turning his fire on two moderate GOP senators who’ve indicated they’d like to wait on voting until after the November election, Gaetz suggested voters withhold voting for them in the fall.

“If Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski are going to withhold their vote for the president’s nominee, then Republicans in those states should withhold their votes from them. What good are Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski if we can’t count on them to fulfill their obligation to advise and consent during the term in which they’ve been elected,” said the lawmaker.

Gaetz, who is starting to promote his new book due out tomorrow, Firebrand, Dispatches from the Front Lines of the MAGA Revolution, also took aim at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has pushed through a record number of federal court nominees for Trump.

Matt did an amazing segment on Tucker tonight. He was on fire and had Tucker cracking up with laughter.

Murkowsky isn’t up this time and Collins only chance of winning was to back the President and she just blew it.

No excuses Mitch, we’ve played your shell game before and we’re very wise to you. That goes for you too Lindsey.

Mitch deserves our respect when it comes to judicial confirmations. He’s the best.

Yeah, he's like a janitor that will sweep and mop the floor but refuses to scrub the toilets. Half-assed.

Her votes for tax reform and especially for Kavanaugh are why she is the top target of the Left. She is under blistering, non-stop attacks for being a "Trump ally" and "Trump stooge." She had been getting near 70% of the vote in her elections. Do you even pay attention to politics / current events? Serious question. Just seems like you always just throw out one liners on a whim without any real knowledge base of the subject matter.

Collins has nothing to gain or lose. She is political toast no matter what. Beyond which, Gaetz needs to attend to his own business and leave the Senate to McConnell. The turtle is not loved on FR. But he is exactly the right man for this job. He is the smoothest political operative to run the Senate since Lyndon Johnson back in the 1950s. Most people go to sleep counting sheep. Mitch nods off counting votes and reciting arcane rules of parliamentary procedure. He is not a miracle worker. But if something is actually doable in the Senate, and he is on your side, he will get it done. He knows the levers of power and whose back needs scratching and who he needs to lean on. Gaetz needs to shut up and let the man do his job. If he wants to comment on the Senate, he can run in the next election.

"...The turtle is not loved on FR..."

There is clearly something corrupt between McConnell and China, his wife perhaps the root of it.

But I give him all the credit in the world for his work in getting judicial nominees through.

If I have to turn my face from the corruption I feel haunts his footsteps in order to help preserve the Republic, I believe I have to make that choice.

It is that important.

Exactly what I am thinking.

Collins had a last minute chance to show that she supported President Trump, who just gave Maine a BIG win.

And you would think, with her years in politics, she would know that the ONE thing she could do to gain more votes would be ...to support POTUS.

I thought she had better instincts. Glad she’s gone.

The only ones who hate Collins more than the Democrats are Republicans.

Collins represents a state that Trump lost in 2016. I’d say she has to do what is necessary to hold her seat — and I suspect the SC nominee would be confirmed with or without her.

McConnell has been absolutely masterful on the most consequential Senate actions of the last 4+ years:

1. Blocking the Merrick Garland appointment.

2. Getting two Supreme Court justices confirmed.

3. Managing the impeachment trial.

I’m not McConnell’s biggest fan, but most of the complaints I see about him on FR are idiotic.

4. On track to have confirmed 300 Trump judges by the end of the year.

Give the devil his due. He got right with Trump.

I posted this on another thread a while back; fits here too:

Your invective against Mitch McConnell on this particular subject is totally misplaced. It was McConnell that changed the filibuster rules in the Senate to only 51 votes needed to appoint a Supreme Court Judge that allows us to now get a conservative replacement for RBG. It has been Mitch McConnell that has gotten through all of the conservative judges these past almost 4 years to the tune of close to 200 judges throughout the fruited plain.

It is Mitch McConnell who continues to pursue his push for conservative appointments of judges in spite of the fact that he is being threatened with death and his homes, both in Kentucky and in Wash D.C. have been surrounded by thug protesters (soon to be rioters, mark my words) multiple times. But McConnell sticks to his guns and soldiers on. And you say he’s weak and not a man?

McConnell has been a pretty good soldier for Trump, not perfect and he has his peccadillo’s; however, on judge-ships McConnell has been superb, and I and others should resent your blanket indictment of a man who is doing yeoman’s duty in the one area he needs to be great, and that’s when it comes to supporting and shepherding through Supreme Court justice appointments. So tone down your unwarranted hostility here; it’s inappropriate considering the gravity of the matter at hand.

IMPORTANT
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he believed President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick would be confirmed before the election.

Cruz said such action was justified by the U.S. Senate, given the possibility the high court would have to weigh in on the presidential election.

JOE BIDEN has been explicit. He has said, IF HE DOESN’T WIN HE WILL CHALLENGE THE ELECTION. He’s going to go to court. He’s going to challenge it. He’s already hired a big legal team. Hillary Clinton has told Joe Biden, “Under no circumstances should you concede.” Given that, there is a serious risk of a constitutional crisis, IF JOE BIDEN is bringing litigation, like we had in Bush v. Gore but IN FIVE OR TEN STATES…

It talks about the epic battle where AL GORE CHALLENGED THE ELECTION RESULTS, AND FOR 36 DAYS, THE COUNTRY WAS HELD IN CHAOS.

Well, IF JOE BIDEN DOES THIS AGAIN THIS YEAR AND WE HAVE AN EQUALLY DIVIDED 8 (SUPREME COURT), 4-4, CAN’T DECIDE ANYTHING.

That could make this PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION DRAGS ON FOR WEEKS AND MONTHS AND WELL INTO NEXT YEAR! That is an INTOLERABLE SITUATION FOR THIS COUNTRY. We NEED a FULL COURT ON ELECTION DAY, given the VERY HIGH LIKELIHOOD that we’re going to SEE LITIGATION THAT GOES TO COURT.

WE NEED A SUPREME COURT THAT CAN GIVE A DEFINITIVE [ELECTION] ANSWER FOR THE COUNTRY.

Gee, and I didn’t even get started about Mitch being a stooge for China, which he is. You should inform yourself before you start trying to lecture people. But I know you won’t, you’ll just go off half-cocked like uninformed people usually do.

You need more than a lecture. Such ignorance should not unwatched go.

I can't disagree at all.

I was listening to Nick Di Paolo (an extremely profane, non-politically correct conservative comedian) this morning on my way to work, and he was talking about McConnell, saying something like "Hi, I'm Mitch McConnell, I'm from Kentucky and I bang my sister..." What is it with that guy? When he talks, it's like his face is paralyzed below the eyebrows...only his mouth moves..." (Click here for a link to that part of his show...if you don't mind cigarette smoking, stereotyping, sexism, and cussing...all done joyfully by him to poke people who hate smoking, stereotyping, sexism, and cussing...:)

If anyone is from Kentucky, don't feel bad-he nails absolutely everyone, including himself...he is so utterly profane, and deliberately so that I find him drop-dead hilarious...:)

Gotta contribute to him...

If the Republicans don’t get this done, they will go the way of the Whigs.
