Two Florida judges [Lagoa; Muñiz] among possible Trump nominees for U.S. Supreme Court

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump floated two Florida justices as potential additions to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the wake of Friday’s death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, those names have a renewed resonance, with Trump ready to move forward, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowing that Trump’s nominee will get a vote despite the immiment election.

Both Barbara Lagoa and Carlos Muñiz, respectively a former and a current member of the Florida Supreme Court appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, were among a list of 20 names introduced by the President to media at the White House earlier this month.

While my preference would be Judge Barrett, I think the political calculus raises Lagoa to the top of the list. The Dems will have a very hard time attacking a female Latino since they need the Hispanic vote.

The only way it won't be Barrett is if she decides she doesn't want to go through the hell of getting the seat. They'll go after her family. It will be nasty. It doesn't matter that she (or ANY Trump nominee) is squeaky clean. The left will pull every evil deed they can think of to sideline the nomination.

In 2000, she was one of a dozen mostly pro bono lawyers who represented the Miami family of Elián González.
