I knew when I read this story that it was going to be pushed by the alphabet crowd. Their main goal is sex with children.
It looks like they’re updating the law to cover other “sex acts.” It’s interesting CA is still 18 for legal age of consent considering its current sociopolitical state compared to a rock-ribbed conservative place like Georgia.
Bill Clinton would have pushed for a 50-year difference with a minor to be legal. Stupid law, what is the minimum age for the adult offender? If 21, and the minor is 12 - that's within ten years.

You quote a case that inspired the change, two lesbians in high school, and then say the legal change's goal is "sex with children" when if the couple had been a 17 yo male and a 18 yo female, they would've been covered by a so-called Romeo & Juliet exception in existing law. Your position doesn't fit the facts.
They're obviously "updating" the law to treat non-straights of the same age disparities the same as their straight counterparts. Whether we agree with a 24 yo / 15 yo old hypothetical case, that exception already exists in CA law for heterosexual couples. I don't understand why 10 years was chosen and not something less, like 5.
