City cops are livid over a legislative proposal that could handcuff the brave officers involved in life-and-death confrontations every day — requiring them to shoot gun-wielding suspects in the arm or leg rather than shoot to kill, The Post has learned.
The “minimum force” bill, which surfaced in the Assembly last week, seeks to amend the state penal codes’ “justification” clause that allows an officer the right to kill a thug if he feels his life or someone else’s is in imminent danger.
“It’s moronic and would create two sets of rules in the streets if there is a gunfight. This legislation would require officers to literally shoot the gun out of someone’s hand or shoot to wound them in the leg or arm. I don’t know of any criminal who doesn’t shoot to kill. They are not bound by any restrictions.”...
Paladino, whose association represents 5,100 investigators, said he showed the bill last week to Vice President Joe Biden, who scoffed and suggested it be dubbed “The John Wayne Bill” because it demands sharp-shooting skills of the kind only seen in movies.

I am not. I had no idea it was ok for cops to shoot to kill. I thought they were just supposed to stop the bad guy so he could be arrested.
Remember, when there is a savage attack and you’re the hunted being eaten, aim only at their legs or arms. If possible, try to hit one of their toes to minimize injury severity.
No one is taught to shoot to wound
if you need to shoot its to stop the threat
and that means stopping the threat by solid hits to center of mass, not trying to only hit hands and feet and ‘wing’ people
you want them to go down, not keep on being able to fight

You are certainly joking. It’s idiotic to think the police would or should use their firearms to shoot people in the arm or the leg.
Cops already can only use deadly force if necessary to prevent an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm or to prevent a suspect from fleeing if the suspect presents such a threat to the public. They cannot shoot someone just to make an arrest.
To require an officer, or anyone, in a situation where deadly force is justified —that means a situation where life is already at stake—to shoot someone in the arm or leg is asinine.
