Conservatives want the federal government to stop social media companies from interfering in the presidential election.
American Principles Project Director of Government Affairs Jon Schweppe sent an open letter to the Federal Election Commission demanding it investigate how Big Tech companies are meddling with elections. The recent GOP nomination of Laura Loomer in the U.S. House race for Floridas 21st Congressional district shows how the electoral game has changed, and conservative organizations are taking notice. Schweppe argued in his open letter that while Loomer has been censored by multiple platforms [d]ue to past controversial comments, the fact that she is now a major party nominee for U.S. congress shows its high time for a reassessment.
Schweppes questions to the FEC were written in plain English:
Can these tech companies legally grant a material benefit to one political candidate, but not another? Can they deny one political candidate access to their services and platforms, while granting full access to another? Does this not amount to an in-kind contribution to the favored candidate?
Goebbels had nothing on these guys.
The smell of power----and a federal sinecure----does strange things to Democrats.....
During Hillary's 2016 campaign, Debbie Wasserman Schultz dreamed of a Cabinet appointment.
Her schtick to grab it was diverting Bernie Sanders donations to Hillary's DNC campaign account.
And check Big Telecom too!
CNN is ATT
NBC, MSNBC are Comcast
Big Tech, sure.
But Big Media too. They make a huge show of “fact checking” anything a Republican says but they allow Democrats to lie with impunity. It’s about what you choose to show, what you choose not to show, and how you characterize what people see.
Big Media plays favorites and everyone knows it. The FEC should have stepped in long ago.
About damn time someone is actually saying this out loud.
I’ve been thinking this for quite a while now.
I get a kick out of headlines that go... “XXX demands...” or “ZZZ tells...” or “Jane Airhead Actress is outraged over...”
Although I agree with the goals regarding media bias, ‘telling’ a nameless faceless blob of a bureaucracy anything is a completely empty and useless gesture.
I watch tons of YouTube videos every day. Pool championship tournaments, music videos, jazz piano tutorials, automobile, appliance, equipment, musical instrument repair how-to videos, tooling and machining videos. Cooking, gardening, investing, you name it.
In recent weeks, all the pop-up ads have been replaced by pro Biden political ads - nothing else. Never a pro Trump ad. Never.
I figure YouTube (Google) is just running these for free - no way could the Biden campaign afford to pay for this many thousands of ads. But even if Biden is paying full fare, the lack of Trump ads can only be explained by YouTube censorship.
The Trump campaign has raised far more money than Biden and knows how many people watch YouTube videos.
The ads pop up in the beginning and you can skip them after a few seconds, but a few seconds is all it takes for Biden to smear Trump and ask for peoples vote.
If you are watching YouTube videos as much as me, you would think Biden is the only one running! I assume Facebook is doing the same.
If Im right that would be an in kind political contribution of massive proportions. Why is the justice department permitting this?
