Interesting analysis, thanks
“One neutron decays to become a proton ...”
That was very informative. Firstly, I thought Nitrogen had one fewer proton than Carbon. It’s the opposite.
It looks like this to me now, simplified. A neutron in the carbon 14 atom breaks into an electron and a proton. The proton stays in the nucleus and thus the carbon becomes nitrogen.
Beta rays can damage DNA so they’re not harmless. Wonder what the stopping power of nano-diamonds is.
When the numbers are plugged in (decays per second per gram of carbon 14, energy released per decay), how many watts would an AA-size nano-diamond battery produce. Yes I realize it will produce it for thousands of years (half life is 5000 years).
Regarding anti-neutrinos, some suspect that the neutrino doesn’t exist.
When I worked as a mechanic self-winding watches broke within days.
Still have my dad’s Omega Sea Master self-winder circa 1965....still ticking when I wear it for dress up situations.
