Together, the men had shipped crates of fraudulent votes back to New York. But their scheme was over. Wood reported the operation to authorities. Ferry’s office was searched, and on the morning of Oct. 27, 1864 — less than two weeks before the election — he and Donahue stood trial before a military commission.

...and mail-in ballots are a plot to deny President Trump the election in 2020.

Everybody knows that. The honest admit it.

Those who deny it are liars.

So the democrats are again trying an old trick that they tried to use on the anti-slavery republican president.

This would make for a great commercial against the party of slavery.

Lincoln, the first Republican President, and the WAPO, whether they realize it or not, is reminding us that this is happening again to another Republican President.

I can’t belive they let this be published.

They used to do this in Romania as well....according to a caller to Chris Plante. The dictator got 100% of the vote.

Because the Dems have re-written history and claimed Lincoln as “their own”? And projection?

sort of a yawner. NYC did almost nothing without rampant corruption in 1864; ripping off the soldier vote included. the use of mail was almost incidental.

for their part, lincoln and stanton furloughed whole companies of men to return to their home states so they could vote for the national union ticket.

I wasn’t able to read the article due to the paywall. However this is what I took away from from this article, Someone please tell me what the WP is saying differently

1. Absentee ballots (not mass mail ballots) was instituted for the civil war soldiers
2. Lincoln and Stanton came home with the idea for absenteeism ballots
3. McClellan agreed to absentee ballots
4. Lincoln won the popular vote and 3/4 military vote
5. Lincoln won the war and abolished slavery.

In order to pull off the 1864 election, the Union needed a way for soldiers stationed far from their homes to vote. To this end, most northern states passed new laws allowing soldiers to cast absentee votes from military camps. However, because soldiers were more likely to vote for their current commander-in-chief, there were some partisan attempts to suppress their votes.

“In states where the Democrats controlled the state legislature, like Indiana, they did not allow soldiers to vote in their army camps,” Foner says. “But the War Department kind of encouraged commanders to let these soldiers go home for a week or something in order that they could vote.””

So is the WP trying to say that McClellan tried to suppress mail in voting to help him win? Are they trying to make some not so subtle comparison that Trump is McClellan’. If so, they have it all wrong. Absentee ballots is not the same as mass mail ballots.

It’s the way thru try to say Trump is against immigration instead of saying he’s against illegal immigration.

The WP is not going to write a favorable article towards Trump
