FDNY commissioner urges first responders to skip 9/11 anniversary events

Fire commissioner Daniel Nigro is urging first responders to skip 9/11 anniversary events this year due to COVID-19 — outraging firefighters hoping to honor their 343 brethren killed in the WTC attacks.

“FDNY has gone from ‘never forget’ to ‘forget about it,'” a department member complained.

Nigro issued the stunning directive in an internal order last week.

“From a health and safety perspective, the FDNY strongly recommends that our members forego participating in 9/11 gatherings and events this year,” Nigro states.

“During these difficult times, the department acknowledges our members’ commitment to never forget those we lost on that fateful day. At the same time, we must balance that with our obligation to keep our current and former members, and their families, healthy and safe from the ever-looming threat of the COVID-19 virus.”

For those who do go to or organize 9/11 gatherings, Nigro sets out rules — nothing indoors, and any outdoor events must not have more than 50 people or last more than two hours.

In addition, face coverings are mandatory for all in attendance and social distancing of at least six feet between participants must be maintained. An adequate supply of hand sanitizer also must be provided.

All events must be approved by a borough commander or bureau chief, the order states.

The restriction on outdoor events will likely bar the Bravest from attending two major ceremonies planned on September 11 at or near Ground Zero to mark the 19th anniversary.

They need to tie Mr. Nigro to a large wooden rail and chuck him into the East River.

Just bring some Molotov Cocktails, baseball bats and BLM signs.

Then call it a protest and you can have as many people attend as you want and it can last for days.

Oh, and only wear mask when your breaking things.

The Commissioner needs to be introduced to tar and feathers. Short of that he needs to face a mass rejection and ignored. Call it a political demonstration. This is a total fraud by an Administration that allows lefties to demonstrate or riot or appear aw award ceremonies with restrictions, but cracks down on regular Americans. From deBlasio on down the command structure is corrupt and needs to be completely rejected.

That was brilliant songwriter Laura Nyro’s actual surname. She changed it for business reasons.

Two words for Nigro and Warren Wilhelm, and those words are not Happy Birthday.

There's a famous photo from 9/11 of a staircase of one of the towers showing many, many people going down and a lone fireman coming up with a determined, yet *very* concerned, look on his face.I never learned if he survived or not.

With 300+ firemen dying on that day it's impossible to imagine the FDNY not memorializing the anniversary.

Firefighter Mike Kehoe. Yes, he survived. He managed to get out of the building only seconds before its collapse.

Yup,that's the photo! Great to hear that he survived.

I saw a documentary once that showed a carrier coming into port in Honolulu with the crew lined up on the deck in their dress uniforms saluting as they slowly passed the Arizona Memorial.Very moving, very fitting.

If the Navy can do that the FDNY can certainly mark the anniversary of their "Pearl Harbor".
