The right to cast a secret ballot in a public election is a core value in the United States’ system of self-governance. Secrecy and privacy in elections guard against coercion and are essential to integrity in the electoral process. Secrecy of the ballot is guaranteed in state constitutions and statutes nationwide. However, as states permit the marking and transmitting of marked ballots over the Internet, the right to a secret ballot is eroded and the integrity of our elections is put at risk.

This is about internet voting, but it occurs to me that since you have to sign and date the envelope your ballot is mailed in, all it would take is a few unscrupulous Postal or election employees to violate the right to cast a secret ballot. Given the coercion already in the news from cancel culture and the hate poured down on Trump supporters, this seems like an attempt to suppress the GOP vote.

Because the issue is not that if someone has figured out how to violate the secret ballot for in person voting so let’s just say “oh well,” and then double down on that by REALLY violating the secret ballot that we have laws to protect.

Local elections’ supervisor and state election commission. The method used in my state is a bar code on the ballot. The ballot is recorded on voting roll Presto ... instant identification of person that cast that ballot

Btw have also asked for a receipt showing what was recorded by machine of my cast ballot and was told I would never receive that information

Yep is done before ballot is handed over scanned the whole nine yards

Voting electronically does not happen at my local besides when it was done electronically I could never receive a receipt of my votes, now we have paper at my local. Same problem .... no receipt and electronically makes NO secret too easy. At least with paper one can watch oneself being identified before receiving the ballot. Simple process but most people don’t pay attention

As I said before then, throwing up your hands and throwing out the secret ballot is not the answer. Fighting for the secret ballot is the answer.
