Exactly. He was being harassed and attacked in his vehicle. His wife was jumped outside of the truck. He beeped his horn and was trying to get away. He didn’t hit anyone.
No clarity on the victim's name or health status. One rumor is that he was still unconscious yesterday afternoon.
Man, the victim picked the wrong vehicle to go down there with. Old F-trucks (and other early EFI vehicles) like those have a crash or impact switch, called a fuel cut switch - the idea is that if you are in a severe enough accident, the fuel pump cuts out preventing a potentially ruptured front fuel system from spraying fuel everywhere. The problem with the Detroit ones is that the switches they used were cheap, so when they get old, sometimes the switch gets twitchy and even minor front impacts will cause it to pop. It’s not in an easy to reach location to reset either. You hit a couple of “protestors” trying to get away and suddenly your truck cuts out on you. Don’t know that this is what happened here, but you don’t want to be bringing older Detroit iron to an event like this.
Note: My old 80s Jag has this too, but the switch is a lot better designed and even at this remove of time works fine. It’s also positioned better - you can reach across the car to reset it, or even hold it in the reset position and drive on. Or you can do what I did and install a hidden override switch so you don’t have to lean over. Flip a switch and two and a half tons of British steel will not be getting stopped by a group of “protestors”.
