Coal mines could store old turbine blades [ Wyoming ]

Wind energy companies will have the option of using decommissioned wind turbine blades as backfill material when reclaiming surface coal mine sites soon, thanks to a new bill signed into law earlier this year.

But first, the state needs to set the rules.

...

The blades.. are made of fiberglass. Fiberglass is a tricky material that can’t be recycled or easily repurposed.

And as utility companies look to replace aging wind turbines, the machines’ blades are being buried in stacks at a handful of landfills around the country,

...

old mine sites to suddenly become a landfills, which could affect groundwater or land stability

...

Once a coal company leaves, who is running the landfill?

They should just make turbine blades out of dead birds. There’s no shortage, and they are compostable.

Why don’t they just sell them on ebay?
There are a few places in the world where wind power is a decent option. Very few but they do exist.

They could always grind them up and use them in a blast furnace to generate electricity.

They should make them out of large palm leaves instead.

...store old turbine blades

Kind of a euphemism for dumping, isn't it?

Keep digging for coal. “Fossil fuels” are the only source of power that can fuel our industrial economy, which is why the democrats want to ban them.

“Store” them in the ocean, to make fake reefs, and provide shelter for sea turtles.

Or, Jab a bunch into the ground, in a serial line, strengthened with woven razor wire, for some purpose . . . .

Wondering why they just don’t maintain them ie; refurbishing them with appropriate epoxies, and coatings. I’m not a fiberglass guy, but if boats undergo maintenance to keep them serviceable, why not those fan blades if we have to have them at all.

Yeah, the best use of a coal mine is to store failed technology. Gee whiz!

But but but … wind power is pollution free!

No waste. Except the unrecyclable blades, and mega-mounds of copper tailings left over from mining operations, and the stream pollution from runoff, and dead birds, and continual low frequency hum, and obsolete circuit boards, and child laborers digging rare earth elements in Africa, and …

They could always grind them up and use them in a blast furnace to generate electricity.“

The problem is it takes more energy to grind them up then you get out of them.

Of course the real issue is the whole wind energy concept is a leftist lie. It’s far worse for the environment than coal or anything else. The answer is to just tell these leftists kooks to go to hell and build coal and nuclear plants.
