what they call the largest study ever done, researchers found using marijuana while pregnant may increase the risk that a child will develop autism.
"Women who used cannabis during pregnancy were 1.5 times more likely to have a child with autism," said study author Dr. Darine El-Chaâr, a maternal fetal medicine specialist and clinical investigator at Ottawa Hospital Research Institute in Canada.
These are not reassuring findings. We highly discourage use of cannabis during pregnancy and breastfeeding," she said. Past studies have shown the use of marijuana during pregnancy is linked to low birth weight, impulsivity, hyperactivity, attention issues and other cognitive and behavioral issue in children, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pregnant women who use marijuana, one study found, have a 2.3 times greater risk of stillbirth.

Its OK as long as the drug dealers get their money.
Look at what we have in the streets today
I’ve been hypothesizing this for the last few years. There’s been a surge in autism diagnoses. Well, what are significant numbers of women of child-bearing age doing differently than they were 20, 40 years ago? Where I live (San Francisco), this drug is insanely popular. I can barely walk down any street without smelling it. You should see all the clean-cut, well-groomed 20-30-something women who line up at the cannabis dispensary on Lombard Street for their mind-numbing weed.
The stoners will reject this out of hand.
So pot causes schitzophrenia in adults AND autism in babies.
Discuss among yourself.
My sister is 37 weeks pregnant..she can smell from the next door neighbor, at night, smoking weed..my aunts (Who is 79) her son who is 45 he is severely autistic, been in a group home basically his entire life he was fine til he was about 2 yrs old and just stopped talking..she never did weed..the only thing she ever did differently than her other kids is she had an issue with a gas line in the house and she could smell gas and didnt leave the house while they were fixing it, she thinks that exposure caused his autism..who knows everyone has an opinion
I may never look at parents of autistic kids the same way again.
It’s like when the CDC said the STD HPV is the main cause of throat cancer, and I know people with throat cancer.
My opinion is that it isn’t just the drug use during pregnancy but also the lack of care after birth. People who use drugs don’t tend to pay a lot of attention to babies and then just park them in front of electronic devices. I doubt your aunt did that. Some times autism is just there and no behavior of a parent can change that.
Exactly I agree..no one really knows what causes autism, they just come up with theories..no one knows, I wish they did know for sure
Add that on the list of all the other harm caused by smoking dope.
We know it causes brain damage, so not surprising.
I see this news story has already been censored.
I get an error so can’t read it.
“Weaponized Autism” could potentially help identify the source of autism and lead to a cure... if only we were allowed to use that term again and act upon it.
Verdict is still out, but I've contended that the ubiquity of antidepressants is a big contender for cause. Marijuana use is interesting, though.
Many of us alive today were born to mothers who smoked while we were in utero. I don't support it per se, but aside from low birth weight, tobacco use by expectant mothers doesn't appear to be a factor for mental incapacity.
Did they smoke or dip?
You know this is a Conservative website, not a liebertarian.. right?
Also, you shouldn’t ever see doctors because they abort babies.
